Having lived in Memphis for about a decade, he has embraced the growing cultural vibrancies and diversity in the city, and contributes greatly to its continued growth through civic engagements and volunteering for several community organizations. Chibu discovered his passion for art as a child in his village in Nigeria. Without formal training, Chibu’s artistic abilities are inherent, however have
been further refined under Ephraim Urevbu’s tutelage. His work is a reflection of his life experiences, desires, and emotions. Chibu’s vision is to enlighten and encourage artistic expression in the community at large through the fusion of his native Igbo culture, street, abstract and fine arts. His medium of choice is acrylic on canvass. Chibu founded ArtbyChibu in January of 2013. ArtbyChibu came about because Chibu felt it necessary to change young professional’s perception that great artwork can only be experienced in museums and galleries. Instead, Chibu pioneered an alternative to the classic art gallery approach by bringing together a few local artists, J. Whitlow (branding consultant and event management) and DJ Jizzy JumpOff (renowned Disc Jockey from Boston) to create art enjoyment through the Art Mixer: a mixture of great art in a comfortable and interactive social environment.
