Friends of George's

Friends of George's A Memphis-based nonprofit theatre company producing original scripted comedies with drag at the center of every story. We also recognized the L.G.B.T.

Resident at the Evergreen Theatre since 2011. Sharp, unapologetic, and entirely its own thing. Friends of George’s was founded in 2010 to produce a reunion for a historic Memphis drag bar known as “George’s”. With that experience, we discovered our passions for event planning and show business. community’s growing need for social opportunities, and activities outside of bars and nightclubs, so we

decided to continue providing new entertainment alternatives with a focus on quality stage productions in the tradition of George’s a.k.a. “The Showplace of the South”. To date, we have hosted and produced more than 23 shows, fundraisers, and special events such as “Male’s Diner”, “Heart Burn”, and of course our Evergreen productions: “DragTastic”, “Legends at the Evergreen”, “George’s Truck Stop & Drag Bar” (1&2) “The Drag Boat”, & "The Dragnificent Variety Show." In the process, we have donated proceeds for special causes and organizations that serve the L.G.B.T. community, including OutMemphis, Friends for Life, Planned Parenthood, Community Legal Center, the Anti-Domestic Violence Campaign, Holy Trinity Church, & the Tennessee Equality Project Foundation, just to name a few. Each of our shows is an original Friends of George’s creation. We have an accomplished board of directors that believes in professionalism, and a brilliant production team with extensive experience in entertainment and stage production as well as event planning, management, promotions, and fundraising. In addition, we attract a broad demographic, and our list of fans and supporters is still growing. We are constantly seeking new opportunities to expand our audience, and better serve the community that supports us. ✨ We’re thrilled to welcome back Irene Crist who is directing her third original Friends of George’s production. She has performed or directed in every major theatre space in the Memphis area. She's a multiple Ostrander Theatre Awards winner for acting and directing, and is a recipient of the Eugart Yerian Lifetime Achievement Award (2017). She is also a founding member of The RoundHouse Theatre in Maryland.

She’s officially a forever-member of the FOG family, and we’re grateful for her helping bring our wackiest show yet to life!

🎭 We’re thrilled to welcome Jeanna Juleson to her Friends of George’s debut in MISTER ACT as part of the joyful, homesteading Sister-Wife ensemble! Jeanna is an accomplished actress having appeared on many stages throughout the city including Theatre Memphis, Playhouse on the Square, and TheatreWorks.

Jeanna has played several iconic roles from Clairee Belcher (Steel Magnolias Theatre Memphis) to Mother Superior (Sister Act Playhouse on the Square), and we’re delighted she’s jumped headfirst into the newest - and possibly zaniest - show we’ve produced!

🌟 Be sure to catch Jeanna in MISTER ACT, opening in two weeks at the Evergreen Theatre.

✨ We’re ecstatic to welcome back Jane to the stage as she originates the Sister-Wife ensemble, a multi-actor role she helped create. Jane is a multi-talented treasure of Friends of George’s as a hysterically inventive writer, skilled prop designer, and dedicated board member. Besides her charm, Jane’s superpowers are wielding a hot-glue gun, concocting kooky characters, and thrifting her heart out for anything needed on stage.

Jane believes every great show needs more camp, alarming amounts of adhesive, and at least one prop that looks like it might not survive the scene. It’s just more suspenseful that way.

Be sure to catch Jane in MISTER ACT, opening in two weeks at the Evergreen Theatre.
