Somewhere between Hogwarts, a coffee shop, and a chess bar, there's a room in Downtown Memphis that's been waiting all year for sweater weather. ♟️🕯️

There is a specific kind of magic when the weather turns crisp in Downtown. With rich specialty drinks warming up the tables and quiet intensity over the pawns, Memphis Chess Club is the coziest corner in the city to trade the autumn chill for a tactical battle.

Congratulations to the winners of 901 Chess's Launch tournament September 19th!

In the Open Rook section, there was a 2-way tie for first between Kaishav Shelat, and Declan Hopkins, with 3/4, followed by Saketh Segavalu in 3rd with 2.5/4!

In the U1200 Bishop section, another 2-way tie for first, between Aniketh Roshan and Agastya Rana, with 3.5/4, followed by Aaditya Karrotu in 3rd with 3/4!

In the U600 Knight section, Anoosh Pagare came in clear first with 4/4, followed by a 2-way tie for 2n between Pranav Bharanitharan and Yogitha Nadella, scoring 3/4!

Finally, in the unrated Pawn section, Tylan Bankston and Prajyot Chadchan tied for 1st with 3.5/4, while George Li and Ethan Xu tied for 3rd with 3/4!

What a weekend at the Peter P. Lahde TN Open and State Championship! 🏆

Special congratulations to James Dove from Mississippi who walked away with $1,641 for 1st place. NM Graham Horobetz and IM Ron Burnett tied for 2nd, snagging the State Title of Tennessee State Chess Co-Champions for 2026! 🎉

NM Paul Linxwiler claimed the Top Expert title and plaque, tying with Georgia's NM Chris Chambers, and Pennsylvania's Nathan Zeigler.

Beau Sensing and John Nguyen tied for Top TN Class A player, Townes Buford earned the Top Class B player, tying with Mississippi's Diego Delgado, and IM Dave Ross won the Top TN Senior Prize!

A huge shoutout to everyone who joined us for the tournament over Labor Day weekend. Incredible focus, sharp tactics, and great community all weekend long.

If you know, you know! Bring a "complete" Negroni Week Passport, and let us finish it up for you by getting a $9 "9-mile" Negroni. We're thankful, after all, they gave us plenty of room on the back for our hilariously large stamp; just wouldn't fit on the front!
