A small excerpt from the artist: “What can I make with what is in front of me? An abstract driven approach to marrying these materials helps deliver a somewhat organized end result in what is usually a disorganized process.”

We are excited to share this show with y’all! See yah down at the gallery.

Join us next Saturday, January 10th for the opening of “Of Plural Worlds: Archive” Doors at 66pm

From the artist: From secondhand and uncomfortably new materials I reenact a time-lapse of American world building. Sewing by tradition and gluing by necessity makes reverent installations built around approachable, even silly looking sculptures. This way, I decide from my history what I’ll keep and what I’ll get rid of.

From the Artist:

I caught the art bug while I was producing (and occasionally performing in) Writers in the Round, a weekly songwriter showcase at the Lamplighter Lounge. At some point, I started doing quick sketches of the performers during the shows. Over time the local DIY scene with its rotating cast of musicians, comics, and drag queens became my muse. STAGE is an attempt to translate my love of performance and the local creative community into visual storytelling.

The works in this project move along a spectrum—from instinctive gestural sketches to color studies to highly rendered works. Like different modes of musical expression—private practice, jam session, recital—I show a range of approaches that reflect my practice as well as my polish.

The smaller works encompass live sketches, studies, and experiments with a range of mediums—ballpoint, Sharpie, brush pen, Copic markers, and color pencil. In my paintings, I use acrylic, watercolor, and gouache to refine, resolve, and augment the more instinctive aspects of my studies.

In concert, these pieces seek to capture the vitality of performance—its quiet, intimate moments as well as its volume, humor, and pathos.

Don’t forget next Saturday, December 6th is the opening of “STAGE”. We hope to see you all there, doors at 6.
