The Melrose Symphony Orchestra (MSO) has announced the election of Denise Gaffey as president of its Board of Directors.

A longtime Melrose resident, Denise is well known throughout the city for her decades of public service. She led the City of Melrose’s Office of Planning and Community Development for many years as City Planner and currently serves as Project Manager for the city’s public safety facilities projects. She brings that same dedication to community building to the MSO, where she has served on the Board of Directors for over 15 years. Her husband Jason has also been a violinist with the Melrose Symphony for over 25 years.

The MSO is seeking 2–3 enthusiastic individuals to join its Board of Directors beginning in August 2026!

No musical experience necessary — just an appreciation for the arts and a willingness to get involved. Board members commit to 10 meetings per year (mostly in person, with occasional Zoom meetings), attendance at our six annual concerts, and occasional help at events like dress rehearsals and the Victorian Fair. Terms are renewed annually.

We welcome applicants with diverse backgrounds and skillsets — the MSO is stronger when our board reflects the richness of our community. Whether you're a longtime MSO fan, a community connector, a business professional, or simply someone who believes in the power of live music to bring people together, we'd love to hear from you.

We'll set up an informal phone call to get acquainted and answer any questions you might have. There's no pressure — just a chance to learn more and see if it's the right fit. Contact Jessi Eisdorfer, Executive Director at [email protected] by June 15 to learn more.

The MSO has been enriching the cultural life of the greater Melrose community for over 100 years. We are proud to be a volunteer-driven organization sustained by the passion and dedication of music lovers like you.
