InterACTing at Arts for All Studio: Where Every Voice Takes the Stage
At Arts for All Studio in Melbourne, there are evenings where the spotlight shines a little differently—and so beautifully. The InterACTing Theatre Group, a program designed for teens and adults who are neurodiverse and differently abled, has grown into one of the studio’s most inspiring and celebrated offerings.
What began as a small production of Aladdin has flourished into a vibrant ensemble of 30+ performers, coming together to create musical productions that consistently play to sold-out audiences. Each performance is a testament not only to talent, but to the power of inclusion, creativity, and community.
At the heart of InterACTing is a simple yet powerful philosophy: everyone belongs on the stage. Each cast member is encouraged to share their interests, strengths, and goals. At the start of every production, performers audition and provide directors with a “wish list” of roles they would love to explore. From there, roles are thoughtfully assigned to highlight each individual’s unique abilities, ensuring that every performer has the opportunity to shine.
Beyond the stage, something even more meaningful unfolds. InterACTing fosters confidence, communication, and social connection in an environment where participants feel supported and celebrated. Rehearsals are filled with laughter, encouragement, and the kind of joy that is both genuine and contagious. Friendships naturally form, and a strong sense of belonging grows with every rehearsal and performance.
The result is more than a show, it’s an experience. One where the excitement is palpable, the energy is uplifting, and the pride felt by performers, families, and audiences alike is unforgettable.
