We’ve welcomed three female manatees to East Coast Zoological Foundation’s (ECZF) behind-the-scenes Rehabilitation Center at Brevard Zoo! Redrock, Rosalyn, and Erie are one step closer to their anticipated release back to their native Florida waters! 🌊

These three were orphaned as young manatees and needed to grow while building their strength and skills in a safe place. Earlier this week, the trio arrived from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, where they have been receiving care since 2025.

We are proud to be able to offer our expertise and advanced veterinary care to this species, especially as this region has been at the epicenter of a historic wave of manatee deaths in recent years. We hope to be this trio’s final stop before they head home back to the water!

Learn more about these three girls on our blog:https://brevardzoo.org/news/welcome-manatees-redford-rosalyn-and-erie/ 🔗

The manatees were originally rescued through efforts involving the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and members of the Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP), a cooperative network of nonprofit, private, state, and federal organizations working together to rescue, rehabilitate, and ultimately return manatees to Florida's waters.

Go fish, Ophelia and Felix! 🎣

Our giant otter duo don't usually receive live fish enrichment - so it's always a special one with them! They're so fast, our camera could barely keep up with their hunt.

This enrichment encourages Felix and Ophelia to use their natural instincts. It's so important to us to give our animal residents an enriching environment full of
meaningful choices and safe challenges. This helps them be at their best, both physically
and mentally.

🥣Recipe for one jaguar-sized ball of yarn:
Wrap one sisal rope around one heavy duty plastic boomer ball in a "monkey's fist" knot.

Give to jaguar and enjoy! Kneading the ball isn't required, but is encouraged (from the jaguar, of course).

📸Special thanks to Americas keeper for creating this fun enrichment for Khan - and sharing the video!

Falafel and Julian are back home in the ocean after completing treatment at East Coast Zoological Foundation’s Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Center at Brevard Zoo! 🐢

Falafel the loggerhead turtle first arrived at our facility after sustaining a flipper injury, caused by becoming entangled in a cast net. Julian the green sea turtle had a number of illnesses upon arrival. After recovery, our team was excited to release these two back to the ocean.

We're wishing them all the best! Visit our blog to read more about these turtles' health journeys at https://bit.ly/3TOEhjp

Brevard County residents: Have you heard of SOIRL? 💧

The Save Our Indian River Lagoon (SOIRL) Half-Cent Sales Tax is up for renewal on Election Day this November. 🗳️

For almost 10 years, funds from this tax have been used to support projects to bring the Indian River Lagoon back to good health. This waterbody is critical to our way of life – supporting more than 4,000 species of plants and animals, providing the incredible water fun we all enjoy, and more.

By supporting the renewal of SOIRL, you support our own efforts to restore the Indian River Lagoon through East Coast Zoological Foundation’s Restore Our Shores program. You can make an incredible impact this election day by showing your support!
