The cold couldn’t stop the runners from coming out for the Monkey Madness 3K race at the Zoo this morning. Traveling a 1.8 mile course that took them through the Zoo, Treetop Trek and onto the Art of Sand trail, runners got in their fitness for the day, helped to raise money for animal and conservation programs and enjoyed half-price admission to the Zoo. Running Zone did an amazing job coordinating the 7th annual race at the Zoo with the staff. Many thanks to Running Zone, the sponsors and all of the participants for a fun-filled morning. Running Zone will host its seventh annual Monkey Madness 3K race at Brevard Zoo Saturday, March 2. New this year, there will be two races. The first race, No Monkey Business, begins at 7 a.m. The second race, Scenic Route, begins at 7:35 a.m. and is geared for those who prefer to take their time on the trail. The cost to participate in the race is $28 in advance and $31 the day of the event. Proceeds from the race will benefit the Zoo.

Today is the day! Art of Sand opens and the Brevard Zoo!
Take your walk on the wild side to new depths as you take in art, history and wildlife during Wild Florida: Past, Present and Future – an Art of Sand exhibit opens today, February 16. This unique exhibit was created by eight, noted international sand sculptors and features 13 incredible sand sculptures tracing the history of wildlife and humans in Florida. These ephemeral works of art are set along a 1/4-mile wooded trail, carved into the native landscape at Brevard Zoo. Hear the sounds of a time gone by as you view these breathtaking artistic and historical sculptures - just in time to commemorate the 500th anniversary of Ponce de Leon’s first exploration of North America. Art of Sand is produced in partnership between the Brevard Cultural Alliance, SCB Marketing , Brevard Zoo and Sandsational Sand Sculpting.
