Here we have some of Carrie Rossetter’s Chevron badges! While she started as a distributor for Standard Oil, the southeastern segment became Chevron USA which it remains today. These badges were from her time with them, and you can see the small numbers on the two metal badges indicating the years of service to the company. Carrie worked for a total of 62 years in the industry in either Standard Oil or Chevron USA. If you would like to learn more about Carrie, please call 321 254 9855 to book a tour. On this day in Rossetter history, Ella Rogero and James Rossetter were married in 1895. By 1908, they lived here in the Rossetter house full time, but they had been coming to the property since 1901. They had a long and happy marriage with seven children, however only five survived to adulthood. This of course included Carrie and Ella. In the house, we have many little details that can often be overlooked. One that might be easy to walk by is this beautiful mahjong set! Mahjong is a tile based game that originated in China and is usually played with four people. Currently placed in the Gentlemen’s Parlor, this set actually belonged to the matriarch of the family Ella Rogero Rossetter. She loved anything oriental and would play this in her Ladies Parlor while entertaining. The box itself is made of bamboo and the tiles are a hand painted ivory. This set is from the early 1900s, and Ella had to have it imported in order to play the game in her home. You can find many versions of the game online if you want to play, but this set can only be found at the Rossetter House Museum and Gardens!

Its that time of year for this unusual plant to bloom! This is a night bloom cereus, also known as a queen of the night. It is a vine like cactus that generally likes to grow on palm trees here in Florida. Each bloom is only open for one night to display its beauty. Did you know Carrie was known for so much more than her work with Standard Oil? Here we have a small write up on her other ventures around Brevard. This was written specifically about her work with Florida Institute of Technology, but highlights other areas she championed such as Brevard Arts. She felt very strongly about giving back to the community which enabled her own success.
