FROM NICK BARTH: Singing Opportunity

Hey there singers!

If you're getting this email, you've either sung at Grace United Methodist Church sometime in the past or have expressed interest in doing so sometime in the future, and we have a wonderful opportunity coming up this Advent season!

On Sunday, December 20th, we will present Dan Forrest's major work LUX: The Dawn from On High as our 2026 Christmas Season Cantata. This piece follows the beautiful double meaning of the light of the sun rising over the horizon and illuminating creation through its course, and the light of the Son of God descending from the heavens, and spreading through the world in past, present, and future.

We will be accompanied by a wonderful nine-piece ensemble, and would absolutely love to be joined by you and any of your fellow singers that may be interested in sharing their gifts in this way.

Our one and only in person Dress Rehearsal is on Saturday December 19, from 10am-2pm at the church located at 65 Needle Blvd, Merritt Island, FL 32953.

The cantata service itself will take place the following evening, December 20 at 6pm, with a 4:30 pm call time.

Upon registration, you will receive a Google drive link containing sheet music and any other materials (schedule rundowns, advertising materials, rehearsal tracks as available, etc.) for you to prepare on your own. Furthermore, anybody who is available and would like to attend our regular GUMC Chancel Choir rehearsals is more than welcome, we meet in our music room every Wednesday at 7pm. Reach out to me at [email protected] if you plan to attend any of those.

If you're available and interested, please register at the link below ASAP but absolutely no later than December 1st, and spread the word!

At the Dublin premiere in 1742--to fit a massive crowd of 700 people into Musick Hall-- women were asked to wear dresses without hoop skirts and men were requested to leave their swords at home. Same goes for our King Center performance on Saturday, December 12. :)

We were saddened to learn of the passing of long-time Brevard Community Chorus member and fun-loving elementary music teacher, Susan Wenninger. Our hearts go out to the Wenninger family, including Susan's husband Roger, who also sang with the Chorus. A memorial service celebrating Susan's life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, 1:00 PM at Advent Lutheran Church at Suntree (7550 N Wickham Rd, Melbourne, FL 32940). All are welcome.

Friends planning expressions of sympathy are asked to consider St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Florida Music Education Association.

If you're a Messiah newbie, or if you just want to brush up outside of rehearsal, Joyce has assembled a list of free rehearsal aids. Look for it by email, or message this page for a copy.

You know that big ole Messiah score you're reading from? With lots of black notes? Well, George Frideric Handel composed his famous oratorio in an astonishing 24 days during the summer of 1741. How's that for a summer project? And you couldn't clean out the garage...

Standing for Hallelujah:
Legend says King George II stood up during the "Hallelujah" chorus at the London premiere of Messiah, forcing everyone else in the audience to stand up as well. What do you think? Fact or fiction?
