British artist · Ohio studio · Ships worldwide. "What if the story lived on your wall?" About Lisa Jane Design

I’m Lisa Parnell — designer, educator, researcher, and artist. For 30 years, I’ve lived inside the world of design — from painting signs at sixteen to teaching the next generation of creatives. But over time, I chose to slow down. The industry rewards speed; I value meaning. When my mum

passed in 2024, I painted her essence —
a butterfly with her fingerprint, gold leaf, and quiet symbolism. People began to ask, “Can you paint my story?”

That question became my calling. Today, I paint legacy art on wood —
each piece researched, symbolic, and crafted to last for generations. Every brushstroke is time, care, and memory made visible.

🌿 What I Stand For

I stand for slowness in a fast world —
for the kind of beauty that asks you to pause, breathe, and feel. I believe meaningful work takes time. That symbols hold stories. That art made to last for generations cannot be rushed. In a world that rewards speed, I choose depth. Every color, every texture, every symbol carries purpose. Nothing is decorative. Everything holds meaning. I honor legacy and connection — and the hands that make. Because what I create isn’t just for now,
it’s for the generations to come.

🎨 How I Work

I take only three commissions at a time,
because your story deserves my full attention. Every piece begins with a conversation —
your story, your symbols, your truth. I listen for what wants to be remembered. Then comes the research:
cultural meanings, natural patterns, emotional threads. I follow where the meaning leads. From the first sketch to the final touch of gold leaf,
each layer builds with intention. Every brushstroke is a quiet act of honoring. The process takes four to six weeks —
slow by design,
because your story deserves time to become art.

💫 Why I’m Different

Lisa Jane Design isn’t about décor —
it’s about devotion. I don’t paint what’s trending; I paint what’s timeless. Each piece is created to hold meaning — not to match a season or a style. I bridge design and research, emotion and craft —
an educator’s curiosity, an artist’s hands,
and a storyteller’s heart. My dyslexia taught me to see differently —
to find meaning in the patterns others might miss,
to paint stories that speak beyond words. After thirty years in the design industry,
I know what fast looks like. And I chose slow. Because this is slow art for a fast world —
intentional, lasting, alive.

💙 What I Promise

When you commission Lisa Jane Design, I promise this:

Your story will be heard — deeply, completely, without rush. Every element will carry meaning. Nothing decorative. Everything intentional. You’ll receive a painting built to outlast us both —
handcrafted on wood, made for generations. You’ll have my full attention —
only three commissions at a time,
so I’m painting your story, not juggling dozens. You’ll understand every choice I make —
the research, the symbols, the why behind every brushstroke. And above all,
your piece will hold time, care, and memory made visible. From my heart to yours. 💙

I met George in his carving shed on Vancouver Island and sat with him as he worked. He spoke about wisdom, freedom, and looking up at the mountains. Before I left, he quietly said, "You're doing alright, kid." Hearing those words gave me goosebumps, and I knew right then that would be the title of the painting. For me, listening always comes before adding color.

This week, I’m starting to paint his story. Swipe to meet him. Henry Nolla's Carving Shed, Wickaninnish Inn · Tofino

Today brought something gentle and special. VoyageOhio Magazine featured my real story. I started out as a 17-year-old signwriter in the UK. Later, a stranger in Norfolk handed me a maulstick, and I promised my mum I would make art that matters.

Everything I make now started with her. "Love you more," written in 24k gold.

If you’ve ever wondered what inspires these paintings, the stories, the hidden book in each frame, or why I only take three commissions at once, here’s my answer in my own words.

Meanwhile, a new story is already coming together on my desk: cedar, salmon, a feather, and a running river. The message is simple: You're doing alright, Kid. More soon.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Parnell. Hi lisa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory. When I was 17, I began working as a signwriter in the United Kingdom, where I grew up. I dreamt of becoming a graphic designer. I […]

Sharing my client’s story book for Coming Home to Quiet.

This is such a heartfelt part of the process for me.

Alongside the painting, I create a small handmade book that holds the words, symbols, memories, and quiet details that shaped the piece.

It means the client has something to return to — not just the finished painting, but the story within it.

The book lives in the back of the frame, kept close to the artwork it belongs to.

A little place for the story to stay.

From my heart to yours,
Lisa Jane

Watch the little door close.

This is the back of Andi's painting, "Coming Home to Quiet".

Every painting I make has a handmade frame — built right here in the studio — with a small hidden compartment in the back.

That little space holds the hand-stitched book that belongs to the piece — her story, symbols, colors, and meaning behind the painting.

For now, this one is empty, but not for long.
