The Rose Tree Pops Orchestra is proud to share that we've been awarded the Advancement of Music grant from The Presser Foundation! 🎼 These funds will allow us to continue bringing the sound of a symphony to a large number of children and adults to enhance their education and appreciation of music. Rufei Tang chosen as Youth Soloist for Rose Tree Pops May 17 concert at Delaware County Christian School. Mark those calendars.
Rufei is a seventeen-year-old senior at Conestoga High School who has played the French horn for over eight years. She began taking private lessons with Dr. Harley Givler in the summer of 2024 and is currently a hornist of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra. Previously, she served as the Principal hornist for PMEA's district, regional, and All-State Orchestra and the Philadelphia Young Artist Orchestra. She was also selected for the 2025 NAfME All-Eastern Concert Band. In 2018, she won first prize in the Yimei Cup National Horn Competition and attended the Fourth Jinbao International Horn Festival. She has also played violin for eight years, serving as a first violinist at Delaware County Youth Orchestra since 2022. To spread the joy of music, she created YouTube and social media channels dedicated to French Horn covers which has achieved 800K+ total views and 5K+ subscribers and followers. She also offered free private lessons to 3 students each week as well as self-arranged sheet music to 1000+ requests to spread free music resource and education. Outside of music, Rufei enjoys science, research, and serving her community.

Applications for our 2025-2026 youth competition are now open. The Rose Tree Pops Orchestra would like to invite promising student musicians to audition for the Luca Del Negro Youth Soloist Competition. To be eligible, students must be in grades 9-12 during the 2025-26 school year and be a resident of Delaware or Chester County or attend a school in Delaware or Chester County.
The first-place winner will be the featured soloist with the Rose Tree Pops Orchestra at their 2026 spring concert and will receive $300, second place will receive $150, and third place will receive $75. Former winners who have performed with the orchestra are not eligible to compete.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to gain experience both auditioning and performing with an orchestra as a featured soloist. The afternoon concert will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at a Delaware County location to be determined.
Auditions will be held on Tuesday evenings during January 2025. A list of the recommended audition selections and an application form are enclosed. The deadline for applications is November 30, 2025.

The Rose Tree Pops Orchestra is a 501C3 non-profit organization composed of roughly 65 musicians from the surrounding area and we would always welcome your support. Our concerts are always free, but if you would like to donate, we welcome your financial support to purchase new music and equipment and to fund special performances. Contributions are tax deductible, and can be mailed to our address.
