Most people think the tattoo comes down to the artist. Half of it comes down to your photo.
After hundreds of pet portraits, here’s what I’ve learned. I can only tattoo what I can see. If the reference is blurry, dark, or shot from across the room, I’m guessing on the details. And I don’t want to guess when it’s your dog.
The best photos are taken in natural light, at their eye level, and close enough that I can see every whisker and marking. But the one that matters most is the photo that shows who they are. Mid-yawn, head tilted, giving you that look. That’s the one I want to work from.
Give me a great photo and I’ll give you a tattoo that actually looks like them. Not just a dog. Your dog.
