My 2 newest quilts - 2 of 3 as gifts for my pregnant sister-in-law ... 1) double sided inlay winnie-the-pooh and friends stage 1 diaper changing pad rag quilt for the baby before he starts trying to pick at the fluffy seams and put fuzz in his mouth 2) slightly bigger single sided inlay Mickey and Minnie diaper changing pad and beginning tummy time rag quilt ... the third one will be a Dumbo and Bambi traditional style crib and bigger tummy time quilt that is currently in progress. So much fun to make these! Love working with these fabrics - and on my new awesome sewing machine (Janome Memory Craft 9450 QC Professional)

This quilt was made for my dear friend/ “twin tower” (Tracy’s) grandson Scott… Her daughter, Kendall, had me make it - she had been saving some of her son’s special clothes for many years. I got so excited for this one - so many fun clothes - and interests - that reminded me so much of my son Aydan. Plus, I absolutely love it when the person asking me to make the Quilt is so enthusiastic and passionate about the project.

The challenges on this one ended up being mostly of my own doing - I got so caught up in making this one super special that I created an appliqué nightmare for myself… 😳🤦‍♀️🤣 … I originally bought some fabrics that had some of his interests on them, but incorporating them in, as pieces of fabric, with the clothing just didn’t look or feel right … so I decided to fussy cut all the little pictures and appliqué them. Turned out to be 69 appliqués in total!!!!! Even though I interfaced them all, two of the fabrics were really hard to work with. They kept fraying … and there ware a lot of them - and intricately /finely cut … yikes!!!!! So I had to sew the edges a gazillion times since my sewing machine only has straight stitches …. Next time I’ll borrow a sewing machine to use that has zigzag stitch ability / or use thicker interfacing …. The other fussy cuts I did were on a soccer ball fabric that, in itself, wasn’t difficult to work with, but I decided to stitch every line on the soccer balls themselves… what was I thinking? 😝 but again it did not look cool enough without doing it that way… 😂😂😂😂

Then… Not really a challenge - but something that I just didn’t think about ahead of time - is that i used about 25-30 different colors of thread so I was constantly changing out the spools and the bobbin thread…

This one took a lot longer than I expected it to - especially since I was dealing with passing kidney stones while making it - but Kendall was so incredibly patient and understanding even though I was down to the 11th hour with getting it to her in time for her son’s birthday. Even offered to drive up from Monterey just to get it!!!!! 💜💜

I got it in an overnight ups delivery and it got there in time. Yay!!!! I thought about shipping it FedEx because of the shirt / lol … thst shirt was the near undoing of me - lol - so thick and broke several needles and just was giving me all kinds of issues … 🤦‍♀️😂😳

And the reaction from her / snd then her son? PRICELESS!!!! The reason I love making these quilts! 🥰💜🥰 Filled my heart!

So with Thanksgiving, two Quilt deadlines, the trucking business, kidney stones and Christmas… I haven’t had a chance to post / but I wanted to post my latest two quilts now …. I’m super excited and proud of these. Both of them made for truly amazing people who were having them made for their sons. One for a big guy of 10 and one for an adult kid.

I absolutely loved making both of these quilts out of their clothes and each one gave me new challenges/difficulties etc.

(It’s actually a dark black combined with the bright colors)

Finally having time to post my latest gift quilt - I had so much fun with this one because of who it was for and because of the fabrics! I don’t often get to work with regular fabrics since I do so many clothing quilts… But this one I got to use “normal” fabrics. This quilt was for my good friend Lea Elder’s daughter. About 4 years in the making since I was originally going to make a baby blanket as a baby shower gift… But we decided to wait until she was into a twin bed and cater it to her interests at that point. That point is now. 😊 and I was so excited that I was able to deliver in person at the AARBF Champ Camp counselor reunion a couple weekends ago.

She’s a true princess - loves unicorns, pink, rainbows, and… MERMAIDS!!! So this started out to be a quilt about unicorns, pink and, of course, I had to throw in some fabric with glitter (teehee) … then I decided I was going to throw in something mermaid somewhere and found the cutest mermaid panel to use - so at that point, I realized that the unicorns and pink and glitter would probably be the back not the front… so It became a mermaid quilt but I still wanted to use the original fabrics first the “back.” The hard part about this is that it is a traditional style quilt… Not a rag quilt… But it’s double-sided. The hardest part about this Quilt was lining everything up so that it was straight and matched together well for both sides. Quilting it was also a challenge because of it being two sides.

So here’s the final result 😊 First pic is the quilt on her bed at home. 😊
