Meadville Council on the Arts The Arts are alive in Meadville, PA! Meadville Council on the Arts began in July 1975 with a fledgling group of individuals who loved the arts.

These men and women came from Allegheny College and the surrounding Meadville Area. They had a dream to offer a 'home' to budding artists and established artists to come together, whether it be in the arts, theatre or dance. MCA has been growing ever since. We began on the second floor of the historic Market House, our founding members created the 'space' that is now MCA from a raw attic. Hundreds

of exhibits, plays, Improv, dance, seminars, camps, art and music classes and so much more has come from this humble beginning. MCA has helped people try their hand in the arts and/or helped them hone their artistic ability. We have created clowns, musicians and actors. The list goes on and on as we continue to keep our mission - to keep the arts alive in our area!

We are overwhelmed with the show of support we received for the Meadville Council on the Arts this last Crawford Gives. We will be able to continue showing up and for the Arts in and around Meadville, PA. In the background and in the foreground, the MCA will make it happen. Art must be shared. As Crawford Gives wraps up today, we want to highlight two more of our programs: Poetic Evenings and our Teaching Ensemble.

Poetic Evenings is a monthly meetup providing a safe and welcoming space for gathering and sharing words, thoughts, music, and ideas. During its regular season, October-May, the meetups happen the first Saturday of each month in the French Creek Arts Collective studio, with pop up events in varying locations throughout the summer!

Our Teaching Ensemble was developed with the idea to gather musicians together for informal “jam sessions”, wherein musicians of varying experience levels and can learn from and grow with each other!

The newest MCA-supported project in town is the Market Street Public Graffiti Wall! It’s an innovative interactive dynamic piece of public art conceived of and facilitated by Jeremy Hoople, who hosts “open swim” hours where anyone can come and contribute to the mural.

Your Crawford Gives donation will help support our community programming, like After School Art. For decades, the Meadville Council on the Arts has provided high quality arts enrichment for school-aged kids. Our current instructor, Kathryn Baker McKeown, is an elementary art teacher in Franklin and loves inspiring creativity in kids!

Our fall session will run from September 8 to November 21. Classes are from 4:30-6:00. More information can be found here: https://forms.gle/HDY9a512r3BP6gPT9

Crawford Gives kicks off in Wednesday, and we’d love for you to consider MCA in your giving plan this year. From concerts in the park to afterschool art, MCA has been promoting the arts in Meadville for the last fifty years. We’ll be sharing more this week about our specific programs, to highlight what we do, and in hope that you’ll see something that sparks your interest and join us at a class, a concert, an open mic, or a jam session!
