We are a little bit more than a month away from Garrett County's inaugural Empty Bowls Supper, a fund raising and awareness raising event to put a spotlight on the issue of food insecurity that affects so many in Garrett County. Two things YOU can do right now...

#1. Buy a ticket to the Empty Bowls Supper. Tickets, sponsorships, and donations are available at www.emptybowlsgarrett.org. And if you know someone who might be interested in helping, please pass the website on to them, too.

#2. VOLUNTEER NOW!! If you would like to take a shift as a CWorksGC volunteer at the event, please send an email to [email protected]. Morning and afternoon shifts are anticipated, but the specifics of our volunteer plan will be available at the end of next week. We need A LOT of help!! Please volunteer.

WHAT IS AN EMPTY BOWLS DINNER? Here is what you need to know...

Background/General:
Empty Bowls is an international grassroots fundraising initiative founded in 1990 by art educators John Hartom and Lisa Blackburn in Michigan to fight hunger and raise awareness about food insecurity. The event combines art, community, and service by inviting guests to a dinner featuring soup and bread served in handcrafted ceramic or wooden bowls donated by local artists and students.

Participants pay a donation to attend the meal and are allowed to keep the handmade bowl as a personal reminder of the empty bowls belonging to those who are hungry in their community. All proceeds from the ticket sales are donated to local food banks, soup kitchens, and organizations dedicated to providing food and critical supplies to those in need. Empty Bowls Garrett County:
Lorie and Ron Skidmore of Deep Creek Pottery decided to bring an Empty Bowls event to Garrett County and raise money to support food security in our community. They reached out to Judy Carbone of Community Works Garrett County who jumped on their initiative and reached out to Chris Mullett of Garrett County Community Action Committee. Chris brought in several of his staff members, including Liz Williams, to help coordinate the event, and reached out to Wisp Resort to see if they would host the event. Larissa Meyers from the Wisp readily agreed to be a sponsor, and the Planning Team was finalized and quickly moved into action. Proceeds from the inaugural event in Garrett County will support nutrition programs at Community Action.

Join us for the 2026 Garrett County Artist Studio Tour on Saturday, July 25 and Sunday, July 26 from 11 am to 5 pm at studios and creative spaces across Garrett County!

Today's featured artist is Connie Pardini of Wirestorm Creations , who you'll find at Stop H: Deep Creek Pottery .

A self-taught metalsmith, my journey into jewelry making began purely by chance—but quickly became a true passion. Metal is my favorite medium, and I work primarily with copper and sterling silver. I’m especially drawn to incorporating “found objects” such as vintage flatware and horseshoe nails, often combining them with natural elements like pebbles and driftwood to create pieces rich with texture and story.

I began this creative path designing jewelry, but over the years, as I explored new techniques and ideas, my work naturally expanded in scale. Today, in addition to jewelry, I create ornaments, hanging decorations such as chimes and mobiles, small sculptural figures and trees.

My style leans rustic and organic—I’m not drawn to shiny or overly polished finishes. Inspiration comes from nature, animals, and the spontaneous ideas that insist on being brought to life. I create what I create simply because I love the process and the transformation of raw materials into meaningful pieces.

Customers often tell me they can feel the heart and soul I pour into my work. My enthusiasm for creating is not only present in conversation—it lives within every piece I make.
