Every year, the only way to sum up the 24 Hour Show is to say that it was an experience. Up all night. Working. Me trying to give up control and stay out of the way so my student director can call the shots.

This weekend was one of my favorites. It was a fantastic show that was casted so beautifully that all of the actors got to play to their strengths. I didn’t see a full run-through until the actual show, so watching the jokes land along with everyone else was a fantastic experience.

Another tradition we do the weekend of this show is Reed Grant makes pancakes for breakfast and Whitney Wall Mizell brings drinks. This year she also made eggs for us. I want to say thank you so much to these two for helping our kids stay nourished and woken up early in the morning.

Can’t wait for next year!

Introducing Places in Five!

The one where an actress stumbles into the role of a lifetime...if only she can figure out what play she's doing. Meta-theatricality knows no bounds in this wacky comedy.

Tomorrow night at 6PM in the McGehee High School Auditorium. $10 entry.

Now that Last Day of School has ended, we will be spending the next couple of weeks talking about our 4th Annual Producing a Play in 24 Hours!

Here’s how it works: on Friday, April 3 at 6PM, our actors and tech team will walk into my classroom not knowing anything about the show (which has been chosen by the director). The show will be introduced to them, we will read through it together, and then students will audition. With the time remaining, students will rehearse their parts. This includes line work, blocking, tech, run-throughs, and dress rehearsals. All of these steps will take place within 24 hours as students will perform the show for an audience Saturday, April 4 at 6PM.

Producing a Play in 24 Hours will be completely directed by MHS senior and Theatre Program President Janice Mondragon. Price is $10 to enter.

Once the show has been revealed to the cast and crew, it will be revealed here. Follow our page for live updates of the production between April 4 and April 5.

Last night, the MHS theatre program closed Last Day of School.

This show was something special. I got to direct some students for the first time. And I got to direct some students for the last. It was definitely a bittersweet show, and this is the absolute best group of actors and crew to work with. I love these kids so much.

Thank you for giving me the privilege to help guide you. You make what I do all the more special.

Hannah Grant.
