I like sharing what I do because I find inspiration in the work of others. I hope you find some insp I'm an independent dyer and fiber artist.

Because of this, I can use my creativity in a scientific way to create a multitude of repeatable colors, just in case you needed "just one more skein."

I'm so ready to turn these yarns into mittens! I'm really glad I chose to blend in silk into the green Shetland: I added blue/green and copper sari silk to it. There's a lovely little pop of contrast that should look great in the colourwork.

Also, on a bit of a whim, I carded about 10% cashmere into the Shetland for added warmth. Since switching which would be the main colour in the colourwork mittens, I figured I'd just blend in the cashmere since it'll also be the lining.

I'm excited that this batt is even prettier than the first one I spun. I decided to add more blue sari silk to the mix and it helps the copper sari silk stand out even more!

For the fiddlehead mittens pattern, I'm using the green as the background and the white Shetland/cashmere for the design and inner lining
They will be so luxurious! I still love how well my ryeland version held up, so I'll be making another pair in neutrals (probably mix in some silky shetland/lustre cross from with the ryeland for the mitten lining).

Don't give up! Even if your original idea doesn't work out like you thought, try something else. I think I'll be much happier with my redesign. 😊😊

I'm so pleased to have met so many of you over the weekend. I wish I had taken pictures of those who transformed my skeins of yarn, batts, and combed top into beautiful accessories. I absolutely adored it! Your creativity is inspiring.

Silly me, I didn't book any time off so I'm afraid I've been running on fumes during this work week 😅I'm finishing this Shetland for my colourwork mittens, and once this is plied (chain plied), I'll make the contrast colour. And having some bubbles to keep me rolling into Friday.

Apologies for all the delays to my blog and YouTube channel. I've cleared a bunch of deadlines and content will be forthcoming. 😊

What a day! It was wonderful having so many lovely people stop by the yesterday. I really enjoyed all the chats I had over the course of the day.

Preparing your inventory for a show, packing it up, and being on your feet all day, I applaud every vendor for their efforts: the effect was breathtaking! There were so many beautiful and creative things to look at.

And thanks to Jo and Deb ( and ) for all their organisation of the event.

Well, it's the reality of spinning yarn after planning a project: sometimes it just won't work. And this is part of the learning process.

Despite having planned carefully, I didn't realise that gauge would play such a major role in how a colourwork pattern would turn out. Now I know. 😂😅

I'll use this beautiful in a different project and I'm spinning new yarn, at a thinner gauge, for my fiddlehead mittens. It's all good.

I'm so excited to be bringing these gorgeous hand dyed locks to the this weekend! This process of making ombre locks takes way longer than anything else I dye, but totally worth the final effect.

I had to pick the best locks from the fleece, clean them in small batches, then had to carefully dip dye for the ombre gradient. If you've ever seen a candle being made, you get the idea 😅

I'm bringing loads of batts, combed top, and dyed locks, in addition to , , and stitch markers.

I don't usually laugh at my spinning results, but the samples I've needed to make for my Spindling for Weaving project are just too funny. It's totally ridiculous to see a small whorl with such a fat yarn on it, and even more absurd when you sit it alongside my big boi whorl (at a whopping 291g).😂

But in all seriousness, this project has revealed so many practical reasons why do what they do. Now, I've got the evidence to show how many decisions we make, and how much command we can exert over our tools--even when they're designed to help us.

There will be nuance in my analysis and conclusion, but suffice it to say, the hands that make yarn are the most fundamental to how we have clothed ourselves for millenia.

Everyone loves to squish the wool! This lovely fiber comes from and was bought as a raw fleece, which I fully processed by hand (you can see videos of it on my YouTube channel!). Some of these fleeces were a bit small so I don't have many batts to go into the shop. I'll announce when they're ready to buy.

Want a custom batt? Sure thing, just send me a message 😊💌 The wool is a mix of Wensleydale/BFL bloodlines, if I could guess from the lock structure, shine, and handle. It's simply stunning. I'll have some for the if I don't sell out beforehand!

I'm back after my hiatus! It was a needs based break due to burn out from an extreme year for me. I talked about the specifics on my Patreon, which you can subscribe to at £3 each month. I'm still a bit in recovery but I'm trying to make progress on the backlog of projects.

I'm in the write up of my Spindling for Weaving project which has a lot of loose ends still. I'm also working on another research project, which I hope to announce by the end of this year.

As well, we are moving house again. This is my 19th move. Sometimes you can't help where a really nice job is, so unfortunately we're leaving the Cotswolds (though we won't be too far). I've been coordinating a lot with securing a new house to move to, new job, working full time, and progressing my experiment, so I'm sure you can appreciate why things have been a little quiet at Expertly Dyed. 😅😊

First on my 2026 list is to post these lovely batts to www.expertlydyed.com. 2025 has, frankly, been tumultuous for me. I started it very ill and financially strapped (and behind on deadlines). That continued for the rest of the year (okay, it got better by November). I want to say positive things about this year...but I'm going to be real. It was brutal.

Being sick and poor really impacted everything in my life. I think some of you out there know this as a frustrating reality. And like me, you may feel hesitant to pin hopes and dreams on 2026. Even seemingly obtainable tasks feel like unachievable milestones.

2026 is about doing what I feel like doing. That's it. I want to allow myself to focus with absolute singularity. I've never chased financial success, but I'm doubling down on what my raw human efforts create.

Come along on this ride. Read my thoughts of AI on Patreon. Improve your material literacy. Be critical. Make what I've done, better. Solve problems. Teach the algorithms what you desire.

I'm always running on burnout, which can be felt at no greater point than at the end of the year. I'm still doing stuff. It's important. I'll have spurts of energy and output. Other times I'll be recovering (for a while).

2026 is the year I jump through my own hoops, not through those of systems that don't get me. More info soon 🥰
