A Message to Our Community
As a small business, we understand that community trust must be earned and protected. Artsy Craftsy works hard to provide an affordable, welcoming creative space for local families, and we do not take your trust for granted.
We have recently been made aware of public posts concerning our business and a payroll matter involving a former young employee. We are also aware that the matter has been presented publicly as a warning to other parents. Because of that, we believe some context is appropriate.
When we were notified that a payroll check had been returned, we immediately replaced the employee's earnings and paid the additional documented costs presented to us at that time.
Initially those payments were made, also there was an additional financial claim was presented that would bring the total amount sought to substantially more than the employee's original earnings.
We did not refuse the claim. We requested documentation showing how the additional losses were calculated and how they resulted from the returned check.
As of this statement, we have not received documentation substantiating those additional claimed losses.
We respect everyone's right to raise concerns. We also believe our community deserves accurate context when a business is publicly presented as having financially harmed an employee. We are a small business and no employee has had to wait for extended time for earned payments. In the 2 years we have been open, we are aware of 2 prior times while we worked out our system this has occurred and when it did payment was made immediately. If you work you deserve on time payment.
Requesting documentation for a substantial additional financial claim is not refusing accountability. It is responsible business practice.
Because this involves a young person, we will not disclose private communications or personal financial information, nor will we engage in a public back-and-forth.
Mistakes and disputes can happen. What matters is how we respond. We responded immediately, paid the supported costs presented to us, and remain willing to review legitimate, documented expenses.
We work hard to keep Artsy Craftsy affordable for our community while treating our employees fairly and operating responsibly.
Your trust matters to us. Thank you. I hate that this situation has reached social media as a warning to our community, but I believe in transparency, accountability, and doing what is right. At this point, I can only continue doing that, trust God, and have faith that this too shall pass.
