Pre-Production for the Working Actor begins this weekend. The eight class series is designed to allow the actor to spend significant time on their character and learn techniques designed to help them break character, shoot out of sequence, understand their contracts, and create chemistry with their on-screen counter parts. They will learn not only, the craft but also what they will be expected to do once booking their next lead role. ⁣

Today I got another text from a client of informing me that they received a callback for a project that they taped with us here at the studio. ⁣

These are my favorite kinds of texts to get because it means that the client did what needed to be done to get approval from casting. Booking the job comes down to so many factors but first we have to show the casting director that we understood the assignment. ⁣
⁣
When casting sends your tape up to producers/directors that means they have faith in you to deliver, should you book the role. Then when producers/directors see your tape and agree, they want to see you again. ⁣
⁣
Getting a callback means that many sets of eyes have looked at your work and have said… “I see them for this role, I want to see more of them.” ⁣
⁣
And a callback is also called “booking the room” meaning that the casting director is now a fan of yours and will remember you the next time a breakdown comes across their desk. ⁣
⁣
I personally have a background as a casting director, so I know what they are looking for. Additionally, as a director and producer myself, I also know what THEY are looking for. And guess what? Casting and production executives are not looking at or for the same thing. The trick is to know what each is looking for and simultaneously play to both in your audition. Don’t know how? We’ve only been open for less than two months and have been busy taping even with the strikes. The interim agreement has made it possible for union and union-hopefuls to actually audition RIGHT NOW for upcoming films and television shows. (( And if you were at the live webinar, you found out just how to get some of these auditions yourself!) ⁣
⁣
What makes me extremely grateful is how much we have been utilized being a new studio in the area and more importantly how my clients are seeing results from our sessions! ⁣
⁣
We hit a 50% callback rate. Meaning half of all the auditions we have had to date have resulted in callbacks. That’s a reason to celebrate because people are noticing these actors and their names are being spoken in rooms in a positive way! ⁣
⁣
