Here we are to gather again, friends!
It's time to make your plans for Sherwood's annual ASL & DeafBlind Weekend!! Please join us for a fun-filled weekend focusing on enjoyable accessibility for our community.
We do this by partnering qualified professional interpreters with interns and higher-level interpreting students to ensure quality interpretation and to create opportunities for growth and success for the next generation of new interpreters!
The wonderful truth is that this event is such a success *because* of our volunteering teams! We could not do what we do without them and you! Many of our students return year after year, get certified, and become Team Leads to support both the current students and our Deaf and DeafBlind patrons. We're so proud of the community we are building together, and we are always excited and grateful to extend an invitation to all of you to join us each season.
Okay, Time for DETAILS!!
March 28 & 29, 10am-Dusk
The festival itself! We put together an interpreted schedule so you know exactly which shows are being interpreted when - no guesswork!
We also have a unique schedule for our DeafBlind patrons to enjoy a more tactile experience! We also have a table just inside the Front Gate if you want to see the schedule, have questions, or just want to stop and say hello!
12:30pm, Both Days
Deaf Invasion (social hour and group photo)!
We mingle, HYDRATE, and take a huge group photo! There is always a lot of laughter during this time - You don't want to miss this!!
6pm, Both Days
Pub Sing is a time where daring interpreters and students can try to keep up with the musical cast during an unscripted sing-along!! The struggle is real (because most of us can't keep up in English, either!) and it's very fun to watch their hands and faces flying.
Admission is $34 (including tax) at the gate, and tickets can be purchased here: https://www.etix.com/.../one-day-admission-mcdade
Pro-Tip: Keep an eye on this page ( ASL) for an *online only* ASL Program Discount Code Exclusive to our weekend!!
Not valid at the gate.
Camping: We reserve a campsite near the FREE Showers and the Camping Entrancefor our community of patrons and volunteers! We need to know how much space to reserve, so please let us know if you plan to camp with us. We provide 2 private port-o-privvies for our group, and a kitchen and social area.
We also offer the chance to order 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners for our camping friends. A link will go out this week to those who fill out the form below.
The DEADLINE TO ORDER is March 26.
We'll have cold water available for Free all weekend, and it's a safe and fun space to decompress, ask for help setting up your tent, and visit with friends.
Access to the campground costs $20/person for the weekend, unless you volunteer for multiple days - then camping fees are waived! We'd love to have you join us!!
Volunteers: You are the absolute backbone of everything we do, and we are deeply grateful for your energy, your labor, and your humor.
We can only do as much as we have people wanting and willing to do. There are Always perks to volunteering during this event, and the more you do the better they are! For example, we waive the camping fee for everyone working more than one day! That's $20 saved, plus reward tickets to enjoy the faire on your own time!
