The McCook Community College Alumni Art Show is set to open Monday on campus with art created by 52 former and current students and instructors in art and graphic design. The show is part of MCC’s 100-year celebration.
This show, “MCC Alumni Exhibition: Artistic Journeys,” is hosted by the McCook College Foundation, and will be in the Wrightstone Fine Arts Gallery through Sept. 19. The gallery is located at E. Fifth and M Street and this show is open to the public with no admission, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
The works of current and former faculty are featured in this show including pieces from art instructors Don Dernovich and Rick Johnson as well as Graphic Design instructors Becky Meyers and Kelsey Reiman.
Covering a wide range of subjects, artists have created works in multiple mediums including: drawing, oil painting, acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, printmaking, sculpture, three-dimensional work as well as photography, graphic design, digital painting, book design and a small reproduction of a 24-foot-long mural one former graphic student created for his employer.
“When we began receiving submissions it became apparent what a deep and profound impact the college and its instructors have had on generations of artists and families,” said Denise Garey, Director of Administration for the McCook College Foundation. “We think this unique set of artists have created a gallery filled with countless examples of the people (and animals), values, places and things that have stirred passion in the lives of generations of our friends and neighbors.”
Seven of the submissions came from friends and family members who wanted to share art from deceased artists who had strong MJC and MCC connections to the arts.
At artist reception for this exhibit will be part of the MCC 100-year celebration weekend on campus Saturday Sept. 19 from 2-4 p.m. in the Wrightstone Gallery and many of these artists are expected to attend. A directory of the artists in this exhibit, their works and artist statements has been assembled along with contact information for interested buyers to contact artists directly.
