Life imitates art or does art imitate life?

"1984" is not subtle. It's not comfortable. It's not supposed to be.

Based on George Orwell's 1949 novel about a man who tries to think for himself in a world where thought is a crime.

Orwell wrote 1984 as a warning. He was watching Stalin, Hi**er, and the rise of totalitarianism, and he thought: what if it happens everywhere? He wanted to show you how the system works: the surveillance, the rewriting of history, the control of language, the destruction of love and compassion for one another.
