The cover image of our signature box collection, The Art of Dentistry, is from one of our favorite pieces, “Starry Night,” by Dr. Tie Jun Li. This microscope image showcases the root of the tooth in a stunning celestial landscape with streaks of yellow, the glow of stars, and delicate linear structures from the dentinal tubules and periodontal ligament fibers. It’s as if the universe can be seen from the microscope.

In these two works, we see features of enamel in completely different ways. “Morning Glory” on the left was taken at a lower magnification level and also displays tooth dentin and pulp. On the right, “Triumph” was taken at much higher magnification, creating a dramatic landscape with finer details. Whether we zoom in or out, we see beauty through all different lenses.

Our signature box collection, The Art of Dentistry, features a variety of correspondence cards with striking microscope photographs by Dr. Tie Jun Li. Featured in the center is “Lotus,” an image of articular cartilage of the TMJ taken at x40 magnification. The chondrocytes in the lacunae and matrix can be appreciated in fine detail!
