What does it mean to murmur?

A murmur is a soft, low, almost whispered sound—something that isn't shouted, but still has something to say. It can be a quiet voice, a secret shared between two people, the sound of conversation in a room, or even the gentle sounds of nature.

And isn't that what poetry can be?

A heartfelt thank you to all the poets, writers, and performers who joined us for this evening for Open Mic Night! Your words, stories, and creativity made the evening truly special.

We are also incredibly grateful to Spaceship Earth Coffee for hosting us and providing such a welcoming space for artists and community members to gather, connect, and share their voices.

Thank you to everyone who attended, performed, listened, and supported one another. Nights like these remind us how powerful creativity and community can be. We can’t wait to see you at the next open mic! 🎤 ❤️

🎤 The McAlester Poetry Club's June meeting has been moved up to Tuesday, June 9, from 5:00–6:30 PM at Spaceship Earth Coffee! ☕️

This month's theme is Braggadocio—the art of bold, exaggerated self-confidence. Whether you're celebrating your accomplishments, creating a larger-than-life character, or just having fun with a little poetic swagger, we'd love to hear what you bring to the mic.

Don't write poetry? No problem! Come listen, support local writers, enjoy a cup of coffee, and spend an evening with fellow lovers of words and creativity.

Open to anyone who attended or participated in a Poetry Club meeting or event between May 2025 and April 2026.
