My entire feed has become Jimothy art, and I'm honestly here for it 🦝 He's such a cool little guy! I figured I'd join the fun and do my own version of Jimothy!

A few weeks ago I went on an epic climbing trip to City of Rocks and Castle Rock in southern Idaho. The landscape really does look like a city made of giant granite rock formations rising out of the ground.

On our first evening, we hurried over from our campsite to fit in one climb before sunset. As I was being lowered back to the ground afterward, I paused to take in the view. The sunset and rising moon cast the most beautiful glow across the landscape, and it felt like such a magical moment.

Slide 4 is the photo I took that evening, which became the inspiration for this painting in my travel sketchbook. Slide 5 is me at the top of the climb!

The weather wasn't the greatest for the rest of the trip, but we still got to do a really fun multi-pitch climb (you can see me on it in slide 7).

A little sketchbook watercolor of sagebrush and basalt columns from Vantage, WA. 🌿

I took the reference photos for this painting on a climbing trip in April while gathering inspiration for the book I'm illustrating about Washington's shrub-steppe ecosystem.

One of my favorite things about visiting in the spring is how vibrant the moss becomes against the dark basalt. It's such a beautiful contrast.

I might add a few more sagebrush leaves to this collage, but I'm excited about how this pygmy rabbit spread for our upcoming children's book is coming together!

Pygmy rabbits are the smallest rabbit species in North America, and sagebrush makes up nearly all of their winter diet. Through this book, Linea Jantz and I hope to highlight the remarkable wildlife of the shrub-steppe and the importance of protecting the sagebrush ecosystem they call home.
