🦋Make sure your voiceover matches the script's energy.

It’s not just about what the words say, it’s about how they want to be heard.

Every script comes with built-in energy:
✨ A high-energy promo? Bring the spark.
🌿 A calm meditation read? Soften your tone.
💼 A corporate explainer? Keep it clear, confident, and composed.

Your job is to plug in to that energy, but not overpower it or underplay it. When your delivery aligns with the script’s rhythm, emotion, and intent, the whole message lands.

Read the rhythm. Then match it.

When was the last time that you asked yourself this question? What about when you asked someone else?

The world swirls around all of us so fast, and it's easy to forget to check in with ourselves and our loved ones. So, pause: ask yourself this question and answer it honestly.

How are you? Really?

Do you need to make adjustments anywhere? Do you need to give yourself grace? Encouragement? Correction?
What about those around you? What do you need to extend to them?

Take a few moments and allow your answers to guide how you show up for yourself, and for the people who matter most.

🦋Breath isn’t just for pacing - it’s how you give life to the script.

The right breath helps support emotion, drives intention, and helps every word land exactly where it should. In voiceovers, your breath doesn’t just carry the line, it delivers the meaning.

Here are a few tips for breathing during your voice over sessions!:

1️⃣Breathe from your diaphragm (aka breathe low, not high)
If your shoulders are moving, you're probably doing too much. Aim to breathe from your belly because it gives you more control and helps your voice sound steady and supported.

2️⃣Mark your breaths like you mark your lines.
Don’t wait until you’re out of air mid-sentence. Get into the habit of penciling in breath spots when you prep your script. It’s a small move that can make a big difference.

3️⃣Reset with a deep exhale.
Feeling tight before you record? Let out a full breath. It relaxes your body and clears your head, like hitting the reset button before the mic goes hot.

🎤Do you have any breathing tips? Tell me in the comments!

🦋Change of pace today! I'm stretching my chords by reading a poem from one of my daughter's favorite series!

My daughter, Elizabeth, and I spend time together often. One of the things she enjoys is reading stories to me (perhaps voiceovers and narration runs in the family!😉). This series, by , is one of her favorites. She loves the tale of the Wingfeather children, and I love getting to experience this story and adventure with her.

The poem I'm reading today is "The Legend of the Sunken Mountains."

🎤Have you read this series? If so, what do you think? Tell me in the comments!

🦋Starting over is a fact of life.

Whether you're in the booth re-recording a script, navigating a relationship, reworking a recipe, or fixing a DIY project, hitting "reset" isn’t failure. Sometimes, it’s exactly what’s needed.

Maybe the approach needs to shift.

Maybe the whole thing needs to be rebuilt.

Either way, starting over gives you a chance to do it better, differently, or in a way that finally feels right.

Is it uncomfortable? It absolutely can be, and most often is.

But walking away from what’s not quite right - or giving yourself permission to adjust - is how you get to the good stuff.

If you know that you need to make a change, I encourage you to do it. The other side of change might feel uncertain, but it’s often where growth, clarity, and alignment live. Staying stuck in something that no longer fits - whether it's a habit, a project, or a mindset - only delays the progress you know you’re meant for.

🦋Summer is finally here!

A new season is a great time to take a moment and take stock. Take stock of where you are in your life, in your career, in your goals.

🎤For my fellow voice overs, that can mean:

1️⃣Refreshing Your Workspace – Clear out the clutter, upgrade your gear, or add a little inspiration to your booth. A small change can spark major motivation.

2️⃣Reconnecting with Your Network – Reach out to past clients, fellow VOs, or coaches you haven’t spoken to in a while. Opportunities often come from relationships.

3️⃣Investing in Yourself – Take a new class, join a coaching group, or simply schedule time for rest and creativity. Your voice is your business—take care of both.

🦋A good rule of thumb when recording is to always listen back with fresh ears.

How? After recording, take a short break — even just 5–10 minutes. Then, come back and listen with a clear mind. You’re much more likely to catch mouth clicks, weird breaths, pacing issues, or tiny flubs you missed while recording.

💡Fresh ears = cleaner takes and less editing later.

🦋Say it with me: Mistakes are completely normal.

Flub a word? Misread a line? Forget to hit "record" (again)? It happens - to all of us.

Whether you’re just starting out or deep into your VO journey, mistakes are part of the process. They’re not a sign you’re failing, they’re a sign you’re doing the work. The key is to not let a retake mess with your mindset. Pause, reset, and punch in with purpose. (💡Quick tip: Save some of your outtakes. Sometimes they’re the best reminder of how much you've grown and progressed).

⭐And honestly? This goes way beyond voiceover.

We’re all going to mess up sometimes - in work, in relationships, in conversations. But life doesn’t come with a script or a clean editing timeline. You’re going to misspeak, miss deadlines, or just have off days. The important thing isn’t being flawless, it’s being resilient. It’s learning, adjusting, and continuing to show up - for your work, your people, and yourself.

The booth teaches us that you don’t need a perfect first take - you just need to learn and keep going. The same rule applies to your life.

🦋A special shoutout to my husband - the behind-the-scenes rockstar of my VO life and the incredible father of our two amazing kids. Your love, patience, and sense of humor sets the tone for our lives, and today’s all about you. We’re so blessed that you're ours. 💛

And to all the amazing dads, father figures, and supporters out there: Happy Father's Day!

🦋Let’s be honest - updating your demo isn’t always at the top of your to-do list. But if it's been a while, it might be time to take a fresh listen. Here’s why it actually matters:

1️⃣You’ve Grown
Your reads have probably improved. You’ve got more range, better instincts, and maybe even a few new genres under your belt. If your demo doesn’t show that, it’s not doing you any favors.

2️⃣The Industry Moves Fast
What sounded modern a couple of years ago might feel outdated now. The “cool conversational” tone keeps evolving, and so do client expectations. Keeping your demo current helps you stay competitive.

3️⃣You’re Not the Same VO You Were Last Year
Maybe you’ve taken coaching, landed new types of work, or found a niche that really clicks. Your demo should reflect where you’re headed, not just where you’ve been.

💡Remember: A strong, fresh demo can be the difference between getting skipped or booked. No need to overhaul everything right away. Even a mini-update, or adding one new spot, can make a difference.

✨ Your voice changes. Your skills evolve. Let your demos keep up!

🦋What do you think about yourself? How do you view your life?
What you say and think about yourself matters a great deal — not just in life, but in your work, your confidence, and yes, even in the booth.

As voice actors, we’re literally using our voices to communicate stories, ideas, and emotion - but the inner voice? That one drives everything. If it’s full of doubt, fear, or comparison, it shows up in your reads, your auditions, and your energy.

So take a moment today. Check in. Are you speaking to yourself with the same kindness and belief you offer your clients?

🧠 Mindset check = mic check. Speak well of yourself, think well of yourself. It’s not just self-care - it’s part of your craft.
