Matthews Alive is recruiting volunteer Board Members to join our team!
For more than 50 years, the Matthews Alive Festival has been a beloved family tradition and one of the region’s premier four-day street festivals, held every year over Labor Day weekend in Matthews, NC.
Several current Board Members are moving on to other worthy causes, and we’re looking for passionate, organized, and experienced leaders to help carry this tradition forward.
There will be open Board positions on the Executive Team, and in several areas of the festival (Finance, Food Vendors, Hospitality, etc)
About the Role:
This is a working Board. Each member fully manages an area of the festival from planning through ex*****on.
Time & Commitment Expectations (approx 300+ hours):
✔ Monthly meetings year-round. More frequent in August.
✔ Hands-on management of your festival area--from selecting vendors, managing applications and payments, mapping, vendor communication and systems implementation, during-event supervision, and post-event follow up.
✔ Attendance all four days of the festival
✔ Availability for set-up days before and teardown days after the festival
✔ Minimum 3-year commitment
✔ Work alongside current Board members during the 2026 festival to learn the ropes
Ideal Candidates are not currently involved with organizations that receive funds from Matthews Alive, and are:
• Independent and self-motivated
• Extremely detail-oriented and organized
• Experienced in large-scale event management
• Comfortable leading volunteers and managing logistics
💙 Board positions are 100% volunteer (unpaid) — but the impact is priceless.
