Dance for Musical Theatre!
Sept 14 - Nov 30
Mondays, 6:15-7:15 PM
Teacher: Lindsey Ranz
Ages: Ages 9-16
Every class introduces a brand new combination drawn from iconic Broadway choreography building your your ability to pick up and retain choreography quickly. Students train across multiple styles including ballet, jazz, musical theatre, and contemporary movement, developing a well-rounded technical foundation. Audition preparation and dance call etiquette are woven throughout the semester, giving students real-world tools they can use. The semester culminates in a performance at Once Upon a Musical, our Fall Musical R***e!

Our Musical Theatre Pathway isn't one-size-fits-all. At CAA, students can choose the classes, productions, and training opportunities that fit their goals, interests, and family's schedule. Want to take a musical theatre dance class this fall and be in a production in the spring? Want to take a musical theatre class this fall and add voice lessons down the road? The only perfect path is the path that's best for your child!
And there's no requirement to take classes year-round, or a certain number of hours each week, to participate in our musical productions. Think of our program as à la carte musical theatre training led by professionals that care just as much about your child's development as a good person as they do teaching them to act, sing, and dance.

We're proud to spotlight Margaret de Souza, one of the many excellent teachers at Charlotte Academy of the Arts. She teaches violin and viola, and will also conduct our new Queen City Strings ensemble!

Confidence, Friendship, Resilience.. those are just a few things we see kids gain from musical theatre besides skills in singing, acting, and dance. For most kids it’s not a bee line to theatre. Many of our students start in piano, voice or lessons for a different instrument and while at the studio hear other kids acting scenes, signing in harmony, learning choreography and not long after we hear the “I want to do that!”

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Dolly Parton today. Everyone knows of her musical talents and philanthropy. However, less people know that she was a percussionist and majorette in her Sevier County High School Band in Sevierville, Tennessee. Fewer know that she quietly funded numerous band programs over the years purchasing uniforms and instruments for not only her alma mater, but underfunded programs in lower socioeconomic schools. This was done anonymously for many years until it was discovered and reported on in 2022. While certainly an amazing musician, she is beloved because she was an even better person.
