North Iowa Model Railroad Club

North Iowa Model Railroad Club We are a club started by 7 men who got together in there homes back in the 1970's. Most have past with just two still alive.

They decided to build a modular layout and set it up at different events . That led to growing the membership to around 25 members A little about the club: North Iowa (Modular)Railroad club was started back in 1985 with just 6 members. Each member owned a 4ft section of the layout. The layout was set up in many locations around Mason City and Manly. The club was operational for many years. The lay

out was stored in the basement of The Southbridge Mall in 2006 until being set up again on November 1st 2011. today the club has 14 some active members and taking on more. If you'd like to join feel free to contact Steve Juhl at 641-583-2637. There is a yearly dues fee of 100 dollars. Below is a list of active members in the club. Due to the corona virus concerns Southbridge Mall has cut back hours that they will be open new hours are 10 am-to 7 pm. The North Iowa Model Railroad Club will keep a close watch on our hours and decide at a time weather we will close for a while to keep our members and the general public safe. Thank you for understanding and keep safe. The mall has now been closed as per the governors orders. When this is over the North Iowa Model Railroad Club will be open again for public viewing on Saturdays from 11-4. pm. Please stay safe and we are looking forward to seeing you when this is over.

North Iowa Model Railroad will be open again on the first Saturday of Fed 2. We took the month of Jan off and got our batteries recharged and ready to start running trains again. Time will be from 11:00 to 4:00 p.m. come and visit if you are in the area of Mason City Iowa and enjoy our layout.

I would like to thank all who have looked at this post about the depot on the our page. Please share this with all who care about saving our wonderful old depots around the country. Will find out tommorrow about what the feasabilty studys had to say about moving it and maybe something about the cost.

Good news about the depot. The C.P. has given the city and group wanting to save the depot time to get a feasability study done on moving it to a new location. Our club made a pitch to help with restoration and possibly locating our club layout in the west end of the depot. More will be known after the study is completed.

With sad news for all Milwaukee and train fans. The C.P. has decided to demolish the depot in Mason City Iowa they have not been issued a permit yet but that may come sometime this week.5-21-2018. This depot has stood for over 100 years and once was the center for many passengers that left for Chicago or to the great northwest . I personally tried to buy this about 6 years ago but got no answer now we will be losing a big piece of history for our city. I hope the city will denie the permit and give us a chance to save it. Would make a perfect home for The North Iowa Model Railroad Club.

Some good news to report to all those who follow us. tHE FUNDING FOR THE HOCKEY RINK AND MULTI PURPOSE CENTER HAS BEEN REAPPROVE FOR THE MALL SO IT LOOKS LIKE WE WILL BE STAYING FOR AWHILE . cOME AND VISIT US IF YOU EVER GET A CHANCE WE ARE IN SOUTHBRIDGE MALL NEXT TO WHAT SOON TO BE CLOSED YOUNKERS.
