Remembering Dolly Parton and the incredible mark she left on East Tennessee, the arts, and so many of us. 💛🦋 Dolly also holds a very special place in ABC’s history.

During our 40th Anniversary Season, Ms. Amy received permission from Dolly to create a ballet inspired by her beloved “Coat of Many Colors”. This ballet featured a full choir onstage, Robinella singing, and Laura Morton La Russa portraying Dolly. It was such a special production and one that we still remember so fondly.

And another fun little connection to the ABC family — Ms. Amy’s younger brother once starred alongside Dolly in a 4D motion simulator ride at Dollywood! Swipe through to see photos from our “Coat of Many Colors” ballet, along with a special photo of Ms. Amy’s dad with Dolly✨

We feel very lucky to have had even a small connection to someone who meant so much to this community and to people all over the world.

We are so grateful for the energy, creativity, knowledge, and care Ms. Kylie brings to our ABC & VMSD family! From inspiring our dancers in the studio and on stage to filling our days with plenty of fun and laughter, we are so lucky to have her leading, teaching, and creating alongside us.

Our dancers are incredibly lucky to learn from someone who challenges them, believes in them, and cares so deeply about each of them🤍

Auditions are tomorrow!
IMPORTANT — Ages 10–11 Audition Registration

Please note that VMSD classes will be dismissing right at 11:15am, which will make our downstairs lobby a little crowded as registration begins for the Ages 10–11 audition.

We kindly ask that auditioning dancers and families allow our VMSD students to exit the building before entering for registration.

To help make registration as quick and smooth as possible, we encourage you to arrive with your forms already completed.

✨ COMPANY AUDITIONS | 2026–2027 SEASON ✨

Appalachian Ballet Company will hold Company Auditions on Saturday, August 15, at our home studio, Van Metre School of Dance.

Artistic Directors Amy Morton Vaughn and Kylie Morton Berry, along with a panel of judges, will be looking for dancers with strong classical training, musicality, performance skills, and a desire to dance. We are thrilled to also welcome ABC alumna Beth Everitt, Associate Director of Programs and Productions with Houston Ballet, as a guest judge for this year’s auditions!

We look forward to welcoming dancers to the studio and beginning another exciting season with ABC as we celebrate our 55th Anniversary! 💚

Dancers must be 10 years old by December 31, 2026, to audition. Dancers will participate in a ballet class before a panel of qualified judges, and dancers ages 12 and older should be prepared to dance en pointe.

AUDITION SCHEDULE

✦ Ages 10–11
11:30am–12:30pm
Registration opens at 11:15am

✦ Ages 12–14
12:45–2:15pm
Registration opens at 12:15pm

✦ Ages 15+
Including previous ABC Senior Company Members and Soloists
2:30–4:15pm
Dancers should arrive early to warm up independently, as there will be no barre during this audition class.
Registration opens at 2pm
