Improv is an excellent way to sharpen your performance skills, decrease social anxiety, and have fun while making new friends.
ADULT PROGRAMMING:
Too often, adults get stuck in their head and forget how to let loose and engage their imagination. Improv teaches you the importance of accessing your inner child and gives you permission to “play pretend” again with others.
Our Tuesday night pr
actices are currently powered through Yuba Sutter Arts & Culture (go check them out!) at the Lee Burrows Center for the Arts in Marysville from 630-830 pm, weekly. These sessions are always free and open to anyone age 18 and over. All we ask is that you come with an open mind and leave all judgments at the door.
YOUTH/ TEEN PROGRAMMING:
Our Improv Club has also partnered with the Tri-Counties Community Center in Marysville to offer a monthly Youth/Teen Workshop on the 2nd Friday of each month.
These sessions are held from 530-7pm, and the first class is always free. For those that wish to continue, we do ask families for a $5 donation per child which includes free admission to a comedy show from out Performance Team.
Our shows are also held on the 2nd Friday of each month at the Community Center from 730-9 pm.
General admission is $5.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS:
Shamaya Sutton-
Shamaya started her journey in the performing arts world at the age of 10 while still a resident of the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area. She relocated to California and started pursuing a theater degree at Yuba Community College in 2015, and founded the school’s first Improv club under professor James Gilbreath. The Yuba College Improv Group later re-branded itself as “DOPEE,” an acronym for Dramatic Outreach Program and Everything Else, and was active for three years until its officers transferred to other schools.
While attending Sacramento State University, Shamaya joined CSZ ComedySportz Sacramento and played on their minor league until the theater closed in 2020.
After earning her BA in Theater, Shamaya has helped direct several community shows and is currently employed at the Appeal-Democrat as a reporter who focuses on arts and entertainment.
With increased interest throughout the community, and at the request of several former improv members, Shamaya decided to restart the group with the help of Tyler Zepp.
Tyler Zepp-
Tyler Zepp has been volunteering his time and entertaining the community for the past 10 years . He studied theater at Yuba Community College, being involved in various shows and credits the program to helping him find his inner voice.
While there, he met Shamaya Sutton and became a founding member of the DOPEE Improv group and since then the world has never been the same. After enjoying the Yuba College fame, he decided to work with another equally esteemed group, The Acting Company, in shows such as "Oliver", "Sherlock Holmes," and "Vanya Sonya ,Masha, and Spike."
Tyler has also worked with the youth at elementary schools in Meridian in various extracurricular activities and helped coach the Yuba Sutter Combat Wrestling team. Tyler is excited to once again bring his passion for theater and helping others to the Improv Club.
Richard Fifield-
Rich’s improv background stems from three years participating with San Jose ComedySportz, rising up through the classes and performing.
“Growing up in the Bay Area my family would often go to ComedySportz Improv shows and have a great time yelling suggestions and laughing,” said Rich. “What I love about Improv is seeing how it has helped others with Self-Confidence, Public Speaking, Networking and even their love life.”
Rich is a Corporate Finance professional who can often be found giving very serious presentations and public speaking as part of his job. Improv gives Rich a fantastic creative outlet to unwind, perform funny voices, while remaining ready for anything. Rich is extremely excited to share his skills and help grow other Improvisors with the Yuba-Sutter Improv Club.
