Our hearts are heavy as we process the loss of Pat Franklin. Pat was a previous MCAC Board chair and for many years hosted the Soiree at Kalamazoo (her home) for MCAC. She was a voracious fundraiser and supporter of our Junior Appalachian Musicians program and raised the money to establish The Franklin Project to protect and sustain our musical traditions. Her impact on our organization cannot be overstated and can likely never fully be known or recognized, and this assessment fails to even start considering her impact on the community and the countless individuals she championed, loved, supported, mentored, and lifted up. We will carry her legacy and her example with us forever.

We’re getting so excited to present Holding Together, opening Friday, August 14, from 5–8 PM at the Madison County Arts Council.

Curated by Amber M. Jensen, Holding Together brings together artists from Western North Carolina and across the country whose work explores care, resilience, craft, and connection in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

Join us for an evening of artwork, conversation, live music by Crescent Choir, and a short film screening as we celebrate this remarkable group of artists.

The exhibition will remain on view through September 28.

We hope you’ll join us!

It’s been humbling to have (L-R) Carter, Aiden, and Matthew volunteering with us this week. They have put incredible work in deep cleaning and organizing our basement. They even got to be on two radio shows on WART FM! Thanks to Marshall Relief Alliance for keeping the assistance coming almost two years after Helene.
