CHEERS TO LOVE❤️🥂 coming to you March 23rd 2025 3:00p & 7:30p
Created and Directed by Don’Tae Mitchell and Kat Raehpour
Choreographed by Don’Tae Mitchell and Mj Opulencia
Produced by Lia Hielkema

SHOW SYNOPSIS:
Cheers to Love follows the relationship arc of Jullian and Thalia, a once very happy couple who have lost themselves as individuals in the storm cloud of their relationship. Feeling Jullian slipping away, Thalia tightens her grasp on him, trapping him further in a relationship that now is foreign to him, forcing him to step away. At his lowest, Jullian meets Eros, a kind-souled man who helps him find himself again and makes him feel the love that had been missing from his relationship with Thalia for years now. Devastated by the idea of a life without Jullian, Thalia does everything in her power to make him stay, but ultimately Jullian falls for Eros and the freedom of a healthy relationship.

Years later, Thalia finds herself in a relationship with Serena, a strong-headed woman who initially reminds her of Jullian and serves as an escape from the pain of losing him. Thalia quickly becomes the victim of her own manipulation tactics now enacted by Serena. However, unlike Jullian, Thalia doesn’t know how to escape this toxic relationship and stays with Serena. When the past lovers run into each other, the image of a healthy relationship clashes with that of a toxic one. As their stories all intertwine, their lives unravel affected by the cyclical nature of love and loss.

THE LAST FIVE YEARS directed by Lia Hielkema & Written / Composed by Jason Robert Brown😻

Jason Robert Brown's Drama Desk winner, The Last Five Years, has been translated into a handful of languages and was named one of TIME Magazine's ten best shows of 2001. A testament to the show's longevity, and spurred by the show's regional popularity, The Last Five Years enjoyed an Off-Broadway revival at Second Stage in 2013. A film adaptation was released in 2014, starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan.

An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, the show's unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.

The Last Five Years runs November 14th-16th in the Panowski Black Box Theatre. Admission is FREE for all NMU students & the general public. Donations will be accepted.
