I have been turning wood on the lathe on a regular basis since 2005, but have recently been showing and selling my work through various galleries and on the internet. I was a practicing Physician for 34 years until retiring at the end of July 2013, so now I have more time to devote to my art and passion, woodturning. I live in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and the great majority of my pieces are mad
e from local woods, such as Curly and Bird's Eye Maple as well as burls from Maple, Cherry and Birch. I am a member of the American Association of Woodturners and one of the founders of our local AAW chapter, Superiorland Woodturners. My goals are to use the lathe to create individual works of art from wood. I continue to learn and refine my turning skills and have taken to adding color and/or texture to the great majority of my pieces. The finish on my dyed pieces is typically a polyurethane product applied in many coats with sanding and buffing between each coat leading to a high gloss polished look. Most of the pieces are meant to be decorative, but there are some, usually not colored, which can be used for food. They should be cleaned with a wet mildly soapy cloth and dried at once if they get soiled. I do not suggest that the dyed pieces be used regularly for food as the finish will deteriorate. Please know that sunlight will degrade the colors and dry heat may lead to cracking. I for any reason the buyer is unhappy with their piece I will gladly refund the price upon its return. I view my pieces as individual works of art and wish years of enjoyment for those who purchase them. Questions can be directed to facebook, email ([email protected]) or marchimeswoodturnedart.com
