One of my favorite things is going to an art museum. I want to sit and stare and get lost⦠but when you have kids, going to an art museum can be stressful. So these are my tips!
1. They will see a LOT of body parts. Old, young, black, white, male female, etc. Tell them how you want them to respond. They will also see a lot of gore.
2. No touching, no yelling, no running, no āthatās art?!?ā, no rushing other people or crowd one them, etc.
3. āWhich one in here caught your eye?ā āPick a section of this one and tell me whyā āwhat did you notice about this one?ā
4. We looked at art for 1 hour. We went on a free admission night so I didnāt feel rushed or like I wasted $. If that wasnāt an option, Iād take outside breaks often.
5. Just a reminder for the kids- itās not just for them.
6. I took pictures of ones we went to remember for inspiration later!
7. They had favorites when we left!
8. This was a girls night. They got to pick artsy outfits either flare.
9. Itās not just the art. The ceilings were beautiful, the sidewalks were gorgeous and the walls made me want to come home and do a pink lime wash on my walls.
10. I wanted them to see that art isnāt perfect. A lot of it is weird and quirky and you may never have guessed it was museum worthy unless you saw it in a museum. Art should be about what you feel when you see it.
We went to dinner after this and I brought their sketchbooks and markers and pens and they never said, āI donāt know what to drawā or āI messed upā and thatās a win.
