Facebook friends - as most of you know, we have operated the Appalachian Spirit Gallery for over 21 years now. We have always advertised our Second Friday art, craft and music events in various ways, including newspaper articles, emails, Facebook and Instagram posts, text messages, Facebook Messenger notices, and through the social media platforms of the Town of Marion, Smyth County Tourism and Smyth County Chamber of Commerce.

I send out one notice per month through a text message, a Messenger notice or an email to notify you of the monthly Second Friday Artwalk event. If you are not on my list to receive a monthly notice and want to be reminded, please PM me and let me know how you want to be notified - through a text, an email or through Facebook Messenger.

If I am currently communicating with you individually in some manner once a month and you want me to stop this monthly notification, please let me know that also.

I appreciate your help with this request and look forward to seeing many of you at our Second Friday events!

Join us for an unforgettable evening of local art, live music, and community connection at the Appalachian Spirit Gallery’s Second Friday ArtWalk on October 9, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

​Live Music with Wayne Dunford

Continuing the gallery’s mission to celebrate regional talent within 50 miles of Marion, this month features local musician Wayne Dunford in concert starting at 6:00 PM. Best known as a skilled drummer, Wayne is stepping up to the microphone with his acoustic guitar to share his passion for Folk, Americana, Indie, and Old-Time music. Raised in Wytheville on the sounds of WYVE, Wayne is an accomplished entertainer, professional photographer, artist, and cattle farmer. This performance is generously sponsored by the Bank of Marion.

​Featured Artist: Mina Davies

Explore a special exhibit highlighting new works by Marion artist Mina Davies. Known for her vibrant, impressionistic style marked by bold brushstrokes and vivid color, Mina works primarily in acrylic, gouache, and watercolor. Her paintings draw deep inspiration from the surrounding Appalachian Mountains and the farm animals she raises. Mina also brings creative energy to the region through her work at The Art Place in Chilhowie, where she coordinates gallery shows, open mic nights, and workshops.

Come hang out with us for a fun evening of local art, live music, and good company! The Appalachian Spirit Gallery is hosting our monthly Second Friday ArtWalk on October 9th and we would love to see you there.

We love highlighting talented folks within 50 miles of Marion, and this month we're excited to have Wayne Dunford! Most people know Wayne as a great drummer, but he’s stepping up with his acoustic guitar to share a mix of Folk, Americana, Indie, and Old-Time music. Raised in Wytheville listening to WYVE, Wayne is a musician, photographer, artist, and cattle farmer. Big thanks to the Bank of Marion for sponsoring the music!

We’re also featuring a special exhibit by Marion artist Mina Davies. Mina works in acrylic, gouache, and watercolors to create bright, impressionistic pieces inspired by the Appalachian Mountains and her farm animals. When she’s not painting, she coordinates events, open mics, and art classes at The Art Place in Chilhowie.

Take time to explore all the amazing work created by our gallery members. You’ll find handmade pottery, jewelry, woven baskets, stained glass, paintings, quilts, fiber art, felted vessels, photographs, art cards, suncatchers, and custom woodworking like hand-carved bowls and cutting boards.

The Appalachian Spirit Gallery, 144 West Main Street in Marion Va. has a great night of art and music planned for their October 9, 2026 Second Friday ArtWalk.

In the Gallery's continuing efforts to showcase the talent of musicians living within a 50 mile radius of Marion, the October Artwalk event will feature an exciting concert by the ever popular Wayne Dunford.

This concert will showcase Wayne's talents with an acoustic blend of Folk, Americana, Indie and old time music. More familiar behind drums accompanying a band, Wayne is stepping out and playing the music he enjoys the most on his guitar. Wayne grew up in Wytheville listening to the music of WYVE. In addition to being a wonderful musician and entertainer, he is also a professional photographer, artist and cattle farmer.

The October Artwalk will also showcase a special exhibit by Marion artist Mina Mirkwood. Mina primarily works with acrylic, gouache, and watercolors. She draws inspiration from her love of the Appalachian mountains that surround her and the many farm animals she raises.

Mina is known for her impressionistic styled paintings, using bright colors and bold paint strokes. She currently works at the Art Place in Chilhowie, where she coordinates gallery events, organizes open mic music events and offers art classes and workshops.

The Gallery will open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the informal music concert beginning at 6 p.m. The Wayne Dunford concert is sponsored by the Bank of Marion.

During the October Artwalk visitors will also have the opportunity to check out beautiful handmade cards, pottery, jewelry, baskets, cutting boards, wooden bowls and utensils, window sun catchers, hand crafted books, bookmarks and so much more now showcased at the gallery.

More work on display in December by all the Appalachian Spirit Gallery members include paintings, executed in oils, watercolors, acrylics, alcohol inks and mixed media; photography, felted works, quilts, stained glass and more.

The Appalachian Spirit Gallery has a great night planned for their September 11, 2026 Second Friday ArtWalk!

In the Gallery's ongoing efforts to showcase the talent of musicians living within a 30 mile radius of Marion, the Gallery is thrilled to feature an exciting music concert!

Performing at the Gallery for the third year in a row, Albert Blackburn and Dave Vaught —formerly part of The VW Boys—will share their love of music and storytelling with our community. Albert’s remarkable vocal range and talent on the guitar and upright bass complement Dave’s background as a seasoned touring lead guitarist and master illusionist. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. and is sponsored by the Bank of Marion

The featured artists for the September Artwalk event are Eric and Siera Wojciechowicz.

Art has been at the center of life for Eric and Siera Wojciechowicz for as long as either can remember. What started as childhood curiosity—Eric sketching lowriders and custom holiday characters, and Siera constantly drawing and painting—has evolved into a shared, lifelong passion.

Eric’s artistic path was shaped by strong mentors and a deep dive into portraiture. Capturing individual expressions became his signature style, turning custom art into personal gifts for friends and family. Siera expanded her craft at Emory & Henry College through Art Education, falling in love with ceramics and oil painting—a passion cemented during a transformative journey studying classic artwork across Italy.

Today, art is a complete family affair. Re-energized by each other’s creative drive, Eric and Siera now make art side-by-side while raising three boys who are already following in their footsteps. From detailed portraiture and tactile ceramics to Italian-inspired oils and mixed media, their home is a constantly evolving studio where creativity is passed down from one generation to the next.

New work on display by Appalachian Spirit Gallery members include paintings, executed in oils, watercolors, acrylics, and mixed media. Other work includes photography, jewelry, pottery, turned wood items, quilts, felted scarves and vessels, botanical printing, weaving, stained glass, papermaking and handmade books.

The gallery is run by the Appalachian Spirit Artists Association, a 501(c)3 organization composed of artisans who share jobs to fulfill the group’s mission to celebrate the arts, traditions, lore and spirit of the Appalachian Mountains by demonstrating the work of local talent.
