On Friday, August 28, the Marion Concert Band continues its Friday evening concert series with a program of American popular music. The program, whichfeatures a variety of popular music styles from the 1890's to the present.

Mary St. Laurent-Sheehan, trumpet, has performed with the Narragansett Bay Symphony, the Ocean State Pops Orchestra, the Marion Concert Band, and the Band of America's Few. She is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where she performed with the Parris Island Marine Band. With the Band of American's Few, a band comprised of former Marine bandsmen who have either retired or have been honorably discharged, she has performed throughout the United States and at the Royal International Nova Scotia Tattoo in Canada She has been a member of the Marion Concert Band since 2012.

The concert will be held at the Robert Broomhead Bandstand, Island Wharf off Front Street in Marion. The program, under the direction of Tobias Monte, will begin at 7:00.

We are sorry to say that due to more rain in the forecast and less than desirable conditions at Island Wharf, we have decided to cancel tonight's concert.

Don't fret - we are planning to push this concert lineup to next week though!

The Marion Concert Band will present a Latin-American “Festival” of music on Friday, August 14. The diverse program includes music from Mexico, Spain, Brazil, and the Caribbean, as well as familiar music that demonstrates the influence that Latin-American musical styles have had on American popular music. To add to the festive atmosphere of the evening, the audience is encouraged to wear tropical or Latin-American attire.

The concert, under the direction of Tobias Monte, will begin at 7:00 at the Robert Broomhead Bandstand, Island Wharf off Front Street in Marion.

The Marion Concert Band continues its summer concert series with a program of music from the British Isles on Friday, August 7. The program features several classic British Brass Band pieces as well as the music of Petula Clark, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and the Beatles. There may even be an appearance by members of the Cape Cod British Car Club, LTD (CCBCC).

The Cape Cod British Car Club, LTD (CCBCC) is a Massachusetts not-for-profit corporation whose membership annually exceeds 250. While members come from all over the world, most members are residents of southern New England. CCBCC members enjoy driving and displaying their English automobiles. Throughout the year the CCBCC participates in events and raises funds for scholarship purposes. Annually the club provides scholarships to automotive and auto body students at the Upper Cape Regional Technical School, the South Plymouth High School and the Cape Cod Regional Technical School. The club also provides funds towards a specific scholarship program available to Falmouth High School students.

The concert, under the direction of Tobias Monte, will begin at 7:00, weather permitting, at the Robert Broomhead Bandstand, Island Wharf off Front Street in Marion.

The Marion Concert Band will continue its Friday evening concert series with a program of Broadway music on Friday, July 31.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at the Robert Broomhead Bandstand, Island Wharf, off Front Street. The program will include a vocalist and selections from several Broadway shows.

The program includes: "The Showman" by H. Akers; "Lohengrin (Introduction to Act III)" by R. Wagner; "Broadway Show-Stoppers Overture," arranged by W. Barker; selections from "Les Misérables" by C-M. Schönberg; "Blue Moon" by L. Hart; "Opening Night on Broadway," arranged by M. Brown; "Make Our Garden Grow" from "Candide" by L. Bernstein; "Sondheim!" arranged by S. Bulla; "Over the Rainbow" by H. Arlen; selections from "My Fair Lady" by F. Loewe; and "Them Basses" by G.H. Huffine.

Vocalist Jocelyn Paulo will perform during the concert. Paulo, a jazz vocalist from Berkley, is entering her senior year studying music at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She is a graduate of Bishop Stang High School and is making her second appearance with the Marion Concert Band.

On Friday, July 24, the Marion Concert Band continues its Friday evening concert series with a program of music based on two themes. The first half of the program will feature soundtrack music from a variety of motion pictures and TV shows. The second half of the program will feature movie music with a “space” theme.

Toby Monte, euphonium soloist, has performed with the Massachusetts All-State Band, the New Bedford Symphony Youth Orchestra, the UMass Dartmouth Wind Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra, St. Cecilia Philharmonic Band, the Tri-County Symphonic Band and the Brown University Orchestra. He has been a member of the Marion Concert Band since 2011.

The concert will be held at the Robert Broomhead Bandstand, Island Wharf off Front Street in Marion. The program, under the direction of Tobias Monte, will begin at 7:00. All concerts are free and open to the public.

The Marion Concert Band continues its Friday evening concert series on July 17th, with a program of music inspired by the sea.

Guest Conductor Sandra Medeiros is an active music educator, flutist and guest conductor in the South Coast area. She teaches middle school concert band, beginning instrumental lessons in the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District. Sandra holds a masters degree in music education from Gordon College.

The concert will begin at 7:00 at the Robert Broomhead Bandstand, Island Wharf off Front Street in Marion.

Tonight’s concert has been cancelled! The thunderstorm is going to be coming through around concert time. We are going to err on the side of caution due to the lightening forecast. Your safety is our priority!
We will see you next Friday for our “Down to the sea in ships” concert!

The Marion Concert Band continues its Friday evening concert series with a Young People's Concert on Friday, July 10.
The concert will include an opportunity for children in the audience to play rhythm instruments with the band.
