For centuries, sailors have relied on ropework and hand-stitching skills that are just as useful today as they were aboard tall ships.
In this hands-on, two-day workshop, you’ll build a traditional sailor’s ditty bag—a durable canvas bag once used to carry tools and personal gear at sea. Along the way, you’ll learn foundational sailmaking, rope splicing, and hand-sewing techniques while creating a functional piece you’ll use for years to come.

No experience needed—just bring your curiosity and a willingness to learn timeless skills.

Join us this Thursday morning for Create, Connect, Age Well (CCA)—a welcoming space for adults 60+ to slow down, get creative, and connect through hands-on making and shared learning.

💮 Block-Printed Tea Towel

🗓 June 18, 2026 (10:00 AM–12:30 PM)
🎨 Instructor: Surelle Strike

Learn the basics of block printing by transferring a design onto carving rubber and carving away the negative space to create your custom printing block. Using your carved block, you’ll hand-print a repeating pattern onto a 27”x27” cotton tea towel — perfect for functional use and adding a handmade touch to your kitchen décor.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
