to Monterey's time as the "Sardine Capital of the World." Only one original Cannery Row bridge remains, from the Aeneas Sardine Packing Company. The City purchased it to preserve this important artifact.

Canneries were on the water side of the street while warehouses were on the inland side. Workers used these bridges to get cans of fish across the street. At it's peak, the canneries employed 4,000 people, canning over 200,000 tons a year. Today, the Row offers shops, restaurants, beaches, historic sites and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
