This 11x14 acrylic captures one of my favorite high-elevation views along the Blue Ridge — Carvers Gap at 5,512 ft. 🌄
I wanted to contrast the quiet stillness of fresh snow with the intensity of a winter sunset — that fiery Appalachian sky melting into layers of blue-gray evergreens. There’s something about standing at the crest of the world in Pisgah National Forest, where Tennessee meets North Carolina, that feels both grounding and expansive at the same time.
The sign feels iconic to me — a marker that you’ve climbed high enough to see forever. If you’ve ever watched the sun drop behind the Roan Highlands, you know the kind of color that lingers long after the cold sets in.
