Resolve Studios

Resolve Studios Making Art Since its conception, Resolve Studios has had contributions from several artists/individuals. Jim Couts is a kindred spirit to members of Resolve.

Beginning with Geoff and Todd, participation has increased to include Geoff's wife Alice Stewart who has provided photography and presentation, and publicity materials. Next is Sam Doak, who has provided writings and poetry that have begun to clarify the story of Resolve Studios and the story of collaboration. A former Pastor turned Master Gardener, he brings a sense of conscience to our creative

endeavors. Like us, Jim understands and sees the spiritual importance of caring for one another as well as our "place".

It’s raining
But I’m dry

It’s not cold today and being in the garden seems like the place to be. I’m sitting here watching traffic go by, neighbors walking here and there, while I’m shielded from the rain in my little shed, shelter made of gifted objects that remind me of loved ones and second hand materials that still have some life left in them

One day at a time, and I’m counting this as a real good day

I don’t post much on REsolve much these days
At REsolve making art has always been inspired by and deeply rooted in the lives of everyday people and people from all walks of life
Half the fun of making this art is meeting and getting to know what matters to people

Empathy is part of that art making but it has many other parts as well - parts like planning

Planning out concrete steps to making to a place you haven’t been to before or haven’t made it to yet is a place where my work at REsolve and being a participant in Main Street West (or whatever we’re calling our west side neighborhood group these days) and my new role as the community development director all meet

Have you seen the repaired brick sidewalks on Lord Street and Maple Street? They are a mix of old, historic materials and a new “foundation” to keep them working well on into the future where our C4 Historic Harmar Village meets our historically recognized residential neighborhood - these sidewalks of old and new could become a more recognizable Gateway between the two - like an opening inbetween two areas of a house with an open floor plan

In the pictures shared here there’s a dragonfly made of scrap hardware on a flower made of spoons - a different kind of old and new mixed together to imagine what else can be

Studio Time spent Experimenting with ideas, and with materials is still an everyday part of my life

It’s all creative if we can find the way to make it so

Pulling some items out of the old bag of tricks - applying lessons learned and techniques developed on commercial jobs coordinated with the other trades (HVAC, Electricians, Plumbers in This case) to work with interns(supported by BB2C and Rural Action) at the studio on indoor and outdoor exhibit development and construction

Thought of this on Labor Day - thinking of the trades and working to support one another

Happy Labor Day
