RENOWN SOUND PRODUCTION is a Music Production Company based in Southwest Florida (but operates Global Welcome to the RENOWN SOUND PRODUCTION page!

Renown Sound Production encompasses a long history, starting at Drone Studios on El Camino in Redwood City, California back during the late 70’s and later on 5th Avenue in the 90’s. This history is rich with music and great memories that will never be forgotten. Through photos, video & music from that era, Music Producer & Sound Engineer Brett Brown is bringing these memories to the forefront agai

Using today’s technology, we now have the ability to transfer recordings from analog to digital medium for archiving, re-mixing & mastering by the one and only Renown Sound “Guru” himself, Brett Brown! The infamous Troggs rehearsal tape. Fricking hilarious! The Spinal Tap movie had to be partly based on these guys. I've had this thing in my archives since 1982 or so.

I started working with Andy Keane around 1982 or so, and we continued to work together on various projects all through the 80’s and 90’s. Showcasing some of my favorite SF Bay Area musicians, this particular cut has Tommy Politzer from Tower Of Power on Tenor Sax and David Tucker from Sista Monica Parker on drums. I tried to capture the vibe of the original Winwood, Capaldi recording from Traffic’s debut album in 1967, but with a slightly updated sound. The result is one of my favorite tracks from this album. Hard to believe this was more than thirty years ago!

One cannot mention Renown Sound Studios without acknowledging the body of work produced by Devin Powers over the course of two decades. From humble beginnings with a consumer grade 4-track in 1980, Renown Sound eventually grew into a professional, full service, 24-track studio that hosted several national acts throughout the 90’s. Devin was a gifted guitar player and prolific songwriter that provided an endless supply of material with which we could practice the craft of music production and sound engineering. I’m forever grateful for his contribution to the success of Renown Sound by bringing in a steady flow of top flight artists to the studio. He eventually went on to build a highly successful career producing music for countless TV shows and movies. To this day, you can’t flip through a few channels on TV without hearing his work. Here is a tune from one of my favorite albums I worked on with him in 1993.

From the 9th Annual Everglades Roots Festival, a 3 day music extravaganza put on by Jack Shealy and family in the heart of the Everglades at their Trail Lakes Campground in Big Cypress Nature Preserve in Ochopee, Florida. This event features some of the best bands Florida has to offer, good food and family fun!

I didn't know much about Country Music in the 80's and 90's until I walked into The Pioneer Saloon in Woodside, California one Wednesday night and heard these guys. They played at the Pioneer every Wednesday night faithfully for at least 15 years that I know of. Robert Smith is an amazing songwriter and showman and Gary Potterton is one of the baddest guitar players I know. I got to mix front-of-house on several memorable shows for them, opening up for Willie Nelson, Brooks and Dunn and Blackhawk, and was lucky enough to work on this album with them. We eventually all became great friends, and whenever I needed some kick ass country guitar on a track I was recording, Gary was happy to oblige!

Besides the Sundogs, this was the swampiest dude I knew in the San Francisco Bay Area. I ended up producing three albums with Brian, two at Renown Sound, and this last album, called "Nasty Bits Of Funk" at Red Rooster.

Redwood City California. The SF Bay Area only had a small handful of swampy bands in the 90's, but they were good ones. We had Elvin Bishop, Maria Muldaur, Flambeau, Mumble Finger, and The Sundogs. I had the distinct pleasure of working on three albums with these guys. They weren't just clients, we became good friends from the first time I saw them at our local mom 'n pop bar, Barney Steeles in the 80's. Bon Temps my brothers!

A project I worked on with my SF Bay Area buddies in 1999 as Producer/Engineer. Kent was my band mate in one of the Bay Area's favorite bar band's, the Buttheads! Recorded and mixed at Renowns Sound Studios, featuring a who's who of some of the best talent the SF Bay Area had to offer. Recorded over a period of several months, this was one of the funnest projects I ever worked on.
