Harvey by Mary Chase opens April 10th at Marblehead Little Theatre. Playing the role of Betty Chumley is Kristy DiScorpio:

What drew you to this production?

The lightheartedness of Elwood and his boyish wonder that guides him through life.

Favorite theatre memory?

Playing the Narrator in Joseph and bringing my son on stage with me for the finale.

Favorite line in the show?

Veta: He was a white slaver. I know he was. He had on one of those white suits.
That's how they advertise.

What do you hope audiences take away from this show?

Don't judge a book by it's cover.

The show tackles themes of questioning reality and trust in the people around you. What is a situation in which you felt misunderstood or that people didn't understand your point of view?

I am a very quiet person at first. Often times this gets misunderstood as me being snobby, when in reality I am humble. Once you get to know me, you'll find that I am someone you want in your fox hole.

Tickets for this show can be found at mltlive.org.

Harvey by Mary Chase opens April 10th at Marblehead Little Theatre and in the meantime we have taken the opportunity to get to know our cast a little better.

Today we meet Norman Bendroth who plays Judge Gafney in the show:

What drew you to this production?

I remember it as a kid and thought it was a hoot. Still do.

Favorite theatre memory?

Moulin Rouge

Favorite line in the show?

Chumley: "I know where I'd go." Elwood: "Where?" Chumley: "Akron."

What do you hope audiences take away from this show?

A greater appreciation of the complexities of mental illness and its impact upon families.

The show tackles themes of questioning reality and trust in the people around you. What is a situation in which you felt misunderstood or that people didn't understand your point of view?

As Judge Gafney or as me? Neither in both cases.

Tickets for this show can be found at our website at mltlive.org.

Harvey by Mary Chase opens at Marblehead Little Theatre on April 10th. In the meantime, let's to know our cast a little better.

Up first is Niko King-Mahan who plays Myrtle Mae Simmons:

What drew you to this production?

I adore working with MLT, and upon seeing the auditions posted, I did some reading of the play. I really enjoy Mary Chases comedy, as it’s timeless and clever. I also have a running joke with my mother about chasing white rabbits, and that also drew me to the piece. You could say Harvey orchestrated the whole thing!

Favorite theatre memory?

Being mistaken for an Amish woman by bar goers during the Crucible, when I was going around the back of the building. It makes me laugh.

Favorite line in the show?

Oh, mother! People get hit by trucks every day. Why can’t something like that happen to Uncle Elwood?

What do you hope audiences take away from this show?

I hope they take away that just because someone seems different, it doesn’t mean they’re bad. Elwood is debatably the best person in the show, even if he is the strangest one as well. Sometimes the best people are the strangest.

The show tackles themes of questioning reality and trust in the people around you. What is a situation in which you felt misunderstood or that people didn't understand your point of view?

As someone who struggles with social cues generally, I often worry about my words being misunderstood, especially with people my own age. I often like to point out things I like about a person, like their hair, or something clever they did. Sometimes people will take those compliments as sarcastic when they’re not. I think Elwood really resonates with me for that reason— sometimes people who mean well can be taken as something different than that.
