We had a great time on Thursday at the Johanna W. Westergard Library in Piscataway for our Children’s Pottery Workshop.

Participants learned hand-building techniques while creating their own clay pots from start to finish.

One of our favorite parts of these workshops is watching ideas come to life in clay.

A big thank you to the Westergard Library for hosting us and to everyone who joined in.

Creative energy has been flowing all month!

We had a great time facilitating a Mother’s Day Canvas Painting Workshop Friday with the YES Program at Thomas Jefferson Arts Academy. Students created tropical-inspired paintings while celebrating the important women, caregivers, and supporters in their lives through art.

We also spent Monday evening at Linden Public Library with an amazing group of tweens and teens for a hands-on pottery workshop. We explored clay through hand-building techniques, to sculpt trinket trays.

One of the best parts of what we do is watching participants build confidence through the creative process, whether through paint, clay, or collage.

A few seats are still open for our Adult Pottery Workshop at The Adult School of the Chathams, Madison & Florham Park on Monday, April 27 (7–9 PM at Madison High School).

If you’ve been thinking about signing up, this is a good time to lock in your spot.

We’ll start with a quick demo of core hand-building techniques, slab and coil building, how to join pieces securely, and ways to add texture and surface detail. From there, you’ll move into creating your own functional piece, think trays, vessels, small pots, or a catch-all—with time for guidance and finishing touches along the way.

Everyone leaves with a fully constructed piece to take home.

All materials and tools are provided.

If you’re looking to make something that feels personal and Pinterest-worthy, this is a solid place to start.

We’re proud to share that Simone Anthony-Brown, Founder of Express Yourself Studios, will be included in eARTh – A Living Canvas, an upcoming exhibition presented by the West Orange Arts Council at the West Orange Arts Center.

Simone’s mixed media landscape paintings, Transcendent Horizon I and Transcendent Horizon II, are part of this group show exploring the beauty, power, and fragility of our planet.

If you’re local, we hope you’ll stop by and support this exhibition.

We’re getting closer to our Figure Collage workshop (Class 0308) at the South Orange-Maplewood Adult School and sharing another example of what you can create.

Each piece starts simply, shapes, color, and layered paper, you’ll choose and build your own figure as it comes together with movement and personality.

No drawing required. Just a guided process and a willingness to try something new.
