A tiny spark in the shadow of the shed,
With nowhere to go and a soul to be fed,
You reached through the brambles, the dust, and the grey,
And promised a home where a kitten could stay.

Twenty long years—a lifetime of grace,
The curve of your back and the light in your face.
With eyes like the moss and a coat like the mist,
A presence so steady, you’ll deeply be missed.

The tea has grown cold, and the house is now still,
No silver-grey shadow on the warm window sill.
But the love that you gathered in two decades’ time,
Remains in the heart, like a soft, steady chime.

From a huddle of littermates, lost in the dark,
To a king of the household who left such a mark—
Rest easy, sweet Earl, in the sun’s golden gleam,
In the quiet of memory and the softest of dreams.

My last painting of the year. PeeGee Chickadee.
Outside, my garden has gone to sleep. With only the bare skeletons of the perennials. On a cold, windy day. I noticed from my living room window a Chickadee sheltering from the wind on my PeeGee hydrangea.

Watercolor study of an old abandoned farmhouse and its quiet guardians. The contrast between the decay of the home and the life of the tree and the cattle. Hope you enjoy this rustic scene!
