The Lost Colony All summer long-experience America’s first English colony, under the stars in an outdoor theatre. -Tickets are on sale for our 85th Anniversary!

-The Lost Colony tells the true story of the 117 men, women, and children who came to Virginia (modern day North Carolina's Outer Banks) to start a colony for England and then mysteriously vanished, leaving nothing but the letters CRO carved into a tree.

-This show is fun for all ages, and performs nightly (except Sundays) in June, July, and August!

-Kids 12 and under are FREE on Monday Nights!

-The Waterside Theatre is an outdoor venue located within Ft. Raleigh National Historic Site in Manteo, North Carolina.

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the rich history and deep roots of the Native communities who first called this land home.

From the coastlines of the Outer Banks to every corner of the country, we celebrate the stories, resilience, and cultural heritage of Indigenous peoples who continue to inspire and guide future generations.

At The Lost Colony, we are proud to honor the Native members of our cast whose presence, voices, and cultural contributions help bring this important part of our shared history to life. Their participation helps deepen our connection to the Indigenous heritage of Roanoke Island and reminds us of the importance of honoring the people and stories that came before us.

Today and every day, we recognize and celebrate the Indigenous communities whose history and traditions remain an essential part of our story.

The Second Annual Roanoke Island Shellabration Sponsors & Vendors Announced:

The Roanoke Island Historical Association (RIHA) will host the second annual Roanoke Island Shellabration & BBQ on Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 1–4 p.m. at Safe Harbor Marina and Tiki Bar in Wanchese.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, this year’s Shellabration will feature an expanded selection of North Carolina oysters, local barbecue, regional food specialties, craft beverages and live music. Guests can enjoy freshly shucked, steamed, fried and roasted oysters, barbecue, chowders, desserts and more, along with local breweries and non-alcoholic beverage options from Pepsi Bottling Ventures.

Participating local vendors include Salt & Cypress, Cousin’s Oysters, Sooey’s BBQ, Swells’a Brewing and Johanna’s at the Wanchese Tiki Hut, with live entertainment by local band Partly Crowdy.

The event is made possible in part through a grant from the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau and the generous support of the following 2026 sponsors:

Proceeds will help support the production, preservation and continued presentation of America’s longest-running outdoor symphonic drama as RIHA prepares to celebrate nine decades of telling the story of the Lost Colony on Roanoke Island.
