Meet our violin soloist for the Bruch Violin Concerto!
Christian Harvey is a violinist and violist based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He began studying violin at age 11 in his hometown of Humble, Texas, studying with Jose Luis Ramirez and James McLeland before pursuing collegiate studies.
Christian attended the University of North Texas on a full academic scholarship, earning his Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance under Philip Lewis, former concertmaster of the Richardson Symphony, and studied viola alongside Dr. Daphne Gerling. He went on to complete his Master of Music and Artist Diploma in Violin Performance at Southern Methodist University under Alexander Sitkovetsky. He continued his viola studies with Barbara Sudweeks, former principal violist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
Christian co-founded the Amicizia Trio during his time at SMU. The trio has received mentorship from members of the Viano, Marmen, and Isidore String Quartets, as well as SMU faculty members Liudmila Georgievskaya and Aaron Boyd. They have performed recitals at Trinity Church at Badger Ranch in Woodway, TX, and Trinity Methodist Church in Ruston, LA, and presented a masterclass and concert for the MTNA chapter at Baylor University.
Christian has shared the stage with Pierre Lapointe and Aaron Boyd, as well as members of the Marmen String Quartet, winners of the 2019 Banff and Bordeaux International String Quartet Competitions. He appears regularly in the Mansfield
Philharmonic Chamber Music Series. His training has also included chamber music coaching with Chad Hoopes, Andrés Diaz, and Ellen Rose, as well as masterclasses with Eunice Keem and members of the Viano and Marmen String Quartets.
Christian currently serves as Co-Concertmaster of the Mansfield Philharmonic and Concertmaster of the Mesquite Symphony Orchestra. He also maintains a private teaching studio for violin and viola.
