I just want to take time to thank God for such a blessed day of DJing for two of my 20-plus active 55+ communities - Parc Place in Bedford, TX and Ridgmar Place in Fort Worth.
There are not many greater feelings than hearing older individuals say that they have a phenomenal time dancing to classic music - and learning newer line dances.
With each performance, I love how I actually learn from them. Meaning, I sometimes get introduced to songs that I have never heard before. I learn how to show more kindness and appreciation for others.
I learn what joy means on a deeper level as the "seenagers" enjoy sharing stories of their long lives / experiences as well as jokes that crack me up. (They are just "cool" people).
I learn that family is not just what you are born into. I love how the residents twice my age become like friends or love me like I'm their grandkid, son or nephew. (In fact, they absolutely love and adore my own family members).
Most importantly, I learn that age is truly a number and how you feel mentally and physically. They have shown me at the tender ages of 70, 80 and 90-plus, that you can always have a great time with the lives that God has given us. (I love how many of them are fearless and not ashamed to dance or sing karaoke in front of their peers).
As I jokingly - but seriously - tell them, I actually enjoy DJing for them more than I do for teenagers. They are the essence of a business that I started six years ago, and one that has grown - and has opened doors for weddings, birthdays and other important private events for some AMAZING people and families.
.. A business that has been a blessing to my life in more ways than one.
