We’re closed now though. Forever. Haven't heard of escape rooms? Get it? Can I do that?
-You sure can!

Well, it's like this: You get a group of friends or family or co-workers together, you go in the room, you look around the room, you find clues to solve puzzles, and you have sixty minutes to figure them out and "escape the room." It might be one of those things where you have to be here.

Frequently Asked Questions

-Am I actually locked in the room?
-No, the door remains unlocked throughout the game - we can pretend! In case of emergency, we want to make sure you can get out quickly and safely.

-Is it scary?
-The game is not meant to be scary; maybe eerie at times, but not scary. Team-building, mentally challenging entertainment is the objective of the game.

-What if we can't escape?
-We want you to have a fun experience, and hints will be provided to try to help if your team gets stuck. If you aren't able to escape after an hour, we'll let you out and show you what you needed to do to escape.

-How long should we plan for our Old Town Escape experience?
-Each game has a 60-minute time limit, but plan for about 90 minutes total, as we do spend some time on orientation before and debriefing after the game. You should plan to arrive just before your scheduled time slot.

-How many people do we need to participate? And how much does it cost?
-We recommend at least four people per game, especially in The Witch's Kitchen. You may have up to 8 people in The Post Office and up to 12 in The Witch's Kitchen. Room price of $89.00 includes up to 5 players and guarantees you the entire room to yourselves. Extra people pay an additional $18.50 each.

-Can I just walk in?
-Nope, you need to find an available time slot that works for your group on our booking page. Generally, you must book at least 90 minutes in advance on weekends and 48 hours in advance on weekdays. But if you call or email we'll try our best to make arrangements for you to play on shorter notice.

-Can I bring my phone in the room?
-Yep. Some rooms make you leave your phone outside, but we want you to have it in case your babysitter or dogsitter or whatnot needs to reach you. Just don't take photos inside.

-What are the recommended ages?
-It often proves advantageous to have a variety of ages/backgrounds on your team. However, the puzzles are created with adults in mind. If your pre-teens want to take a crack at it, that's great! But kids under 15 will be admitted with adult supervision only.

-What if I need to reschedule?
-Please let us know as soon as possible if you need to reschedule. If you let us know within 48 hours of your booking time, we will issue you a voucher code to re-book a different time slot. If you let us know with less than 48 hours' notice, a voucher code will only be issued if we are able to fill your time slot with another booking.

-What if I'm late for my booking?
-Late players may be allowed to join their group mid-game. If an entire group is late, the duration of your game may need to be reduced to ensure that the subsequent bookings can still start on time.

-Can I play under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol?
-You need to concentrate! Even a buzz may make the experience less fun for you and your teammates. Players determined to be intoxicated will be removed from the game without refund. There are plenty of places in historic Old Town Mankato where you and your teammates can enjoy a drink after the game, including The Wine Cafe, Midtown Tavern, and Oleander Saloon, or if you prefer to remain sharp-minded, The Coffee Hag is just a couple doors down, as well as Friesen's Bakery one block north.

-I want to purchase a voucher to give as a gift. Visit our Gift Voucher page, and you'll be on your way.

-What if I have a voucher code that was issued before you changed to Spring/Summer pricing?
-Such voucher codes will be redeemable for the cash value at the time of issuance. For example, if you have a code for two free admissions, the code is now valued at $46.35, which was the pre-tax value of the voucher. The amount will be credited to your transaction prior to taxes being calculated.

Okay, you know what, we feel bad if our sort of “political” posts have soured any of you on your escape room experiences with us. We truly enjoyed hosting you all and we truly hope you’re all doing well.
Our last post in particular may have sounded a little snotty, but it’s just hard to see so many people acting like Tim Walz is an evil madman when it seems clear to us that he’s just trying to follow the generally-accepted advice for keeping people alive and well.
We also want to say that we do of course feel sorry for those in the service industries who have been hard-hit financially. The government should be doing more for these establishments. If you know a bar or restaurant owner, especially one who hasn’t been able to easily do curbside or delivery, you could set up a GoFundMe for them. If our government isn’t going to help us we need to help each other. Drop your GoFundMes in the comments. And then call your representative.

ETA:
👇 That was supposed to be a gif but it doesn’t seem like it’s working.
Also, good news tonight on the government support front! We did it! 🤝
